YWCA seeking AmeriCorps volunteers
YWCA Tri-County Area is currently accepting applications for the AmeriCorps DAWN Program in Pottstown and Norristown.
The AmeriCorps Dignified Advancement Workforce Navigation (DAWN) team is a new initiative at the YWCA to help residents of the community learn job readiness skills and boost their employability.
The program is seeking people young or old who want to serve their communities with an AmeriCorps service year. AmeriCorps Members build realworld skills for a year and make a difference in the community.
Service in AmeriCorps includes a benefit to pay for higher education or repay student loans — and can be applied to family members such as children or grandchildren if applicable.
“As an AmeriCorps member, you will receive the training and support you need to build 1-on-1 relationships with community members. Members start by helping each individual assess their skills and needs, developing an Individualized Employment Plan with clients, then assist clients to learn the job readiness skills they need to advance in their careers. AmeriCorp members gain real world experience to strengthen their own resume through attending professional development trainings, tracking progress, collecting data, developing reports, and earning money for your education,” according to a YWCA press release.
AmeriCorps Members earn a Segal Education Award and a modest living allowance. In addition, Members who meet eligibility requirements receive health and/or childcare benefits. No experience is required; the AmeriCorps and YWCA will teach the skills needed.
The Segal AmeriCorps Education Award may be used to pay educational expenses at eligible post-secondary institutions, including many technical schools and G.I. Bill approved programs, or to repay qualified students loans. A parent or grandparent can designate the award for a child or grandchild’s education or student loans.
