Sheriff’s office earns re-accreditation

-

NORRISTOWN » Sheriff Sean Kilkenny and Montgomery County Sheriff’s Office sworn officers and office staff recently accepted formal recognition of re-accreditation from the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association at the county courthouse.

PCPA Project Coordinator Richard Hammon, PCPA Executive Director Scot Bohn, and Upper Allen Twp. Police Chief Jim Adams — chairman of the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission — were on hand to present a certificate of accreditation to the sheriff.

The MCSO was the first sheriff’s department in the state to earn PCPA accreditation in 2010 and this year’s re-accreditation marks the office’s third consecutive time achieving that distinction.

Obtaining accreditation is a year-round process which officially began in July, when a team from the PLEAC came to the office and conducted on-site evaluations, courthouse observations and participated in ride-alongs with warrant and transportation deputies.

Following a comprehensive assessment consisting of a 133-point criteria review of facilities, policies and procedures, the MCSO was found to be in compliance with the commission’s standards and best practices and re-accredited on Jan. 29.

Sheriff Kilkenny called the re-accreditation “a testament to the daily hard work and professionalism exhibited by everybody working at the MCSO,” and “a reaffirmation of our commitment to protecting and serving the citizens of the county with honesty, integrity and transparency.”

He also gave special thanks to Accreditation Manager Lt. Allen Stewart, who also heads the department’s bomb disposal unit, Cpl. Ryan Volk; Cpl. Timothy Metz; and MCSO Records Manager and Data Analyst Gayle O’Neil, along with the commission’s team and the deputies who escorted them in the field.
