LOWER POTTSGROVE » Eighteen mid-level Pottsgrove School District administrators and principals got good news on Tuesday.

Without comment or public discussion, the school board approved 2-percent pay raises for all of them.

School board member Bill Parker cast the only dissenting vote. He did not explain why he voted no.

All total, the new salaries, which kick in Dec. 1, add up to $1.96 million.

According to Gary

DeRenzo, the district’s director of co-curricular activities and community relations, all the administrators received 2 percent raises.

As such, that means the raises will add $39,200 to the district’s existing payroll.

The highest-paid of these administrators is Pottsgrove High School Principal William Ziegler who will earn just shy of $154,000 as a result of the raise.

Coming in second is Daniel Vorhis, Pottsgrove’s director of education and assessment, whose new salary will be $144,288.

These administrators, known as the Act 93 employees for the legislation that covers how they can “meet and discuss” with the board to set their salaries, do not include the district’s three top administrators — Superintendent William Shirk, Assistant Superintendent Robert Harney and Business Manager David Nester, each of whom has their own independent contract with the district.

In January, the board voted to extend Shirk’s contract through June 2021.

Harney’s contract was extended for another year in March. An announcement on his plans going forward is anticipated at the Dec. 1 school board meeting.

Nester has an ongoing “open-ended” contract with Pottsgrove that renews automatically.
