service errors. I told them, ‘just on those two categories alone we gave them 11 points.’” In sets two, three and four we had 11 attack errors total.”

The second set saw 12 (1-1, 2-2, 4-4, 6-6, 8-8, 9-9, 10-10,13-13, 14-14, 18-18, 19-19, 21-21) more ties as neither team could pull away. This time, however, the Lady Wildcats were the victors, with a block from seniors Ava Sharp and Brynn Oldiges giving them the 25-22 win.

Set three saw the Lady Wildcats build a lead early that allowed them some leeway later in the set.

The Lady Wildcats led 6-3 early on an Oldiges ace and later took a 17-11 lead to force a DSJ timeout. Keeping them at that distance, six or so points, for the rest of the set, the Lady Wildcats scored the last three points to win set two. A kill from junior Ella Mescher made it 23-19, a block made it 24-19 and an ace from senior libero Ivy Wolf made it 25-19.

In the final set, there were 13 ties (1-1, 2-2, 4-4, 5-5, 6-6, 7-7, 10-10, 13-13, 14-14, 15-15, 16-16, 17-17, 18-18,) but the Lady Wildcats pulled away at the end of the set. After being tied at 18 a piece, the Lady Wildcats scored seven of the last ten points to win 25-21 on a Mescher kill.

Oldiges led the team with 12 kills, with Sharp, Mescher and junior Alyssa Niemeyer each adding seven kills each. Junior setter Jayden Clune added a team high 34 assists and five Lady Wildcats in Clune (13), Sharp (13), senior Dana Prenger (20), Oldiges (10) and Wolf (22) added double digits kills.

“Digging wise felt we had a great game,” said Garman. “Once we touched it at the net our defense picked it up. We found a rhythm once we dug a clean ball and ran our attackers.”

With many other schools having more games under their belt, the team is still working to find the fast pace it needs.

“Pacing wise and rhythm wise we felt like we weren’t where Fort Loramie or New Bremen was,” said Garman. “that’s what we’ve been focused on the last two weeks, finding that pace and rhythm.”

With it being senior night for Sharp, Wolf, Prenger, Oldiges and Kyra Oldiges, Garden told the Community Post it always brings emotion.

“This class,” said Garman. “is so level headed and bring so much experience from volleyball and their other sports. Most of my seniors play basketball and the work and effort they put in, in the weight room, is paving the way for the underclassmen. My underclassmen have never been stronger because of this senior group. I look forward to the rest of the season and watching them push these young ones.”

The Lady Wildcats fell to Celina in straight sets (22-25, 22-25, 22-25) on Sept. 12.

Fort Loramie

The Fort Loramie Lady Redskins volleyball team beat Botkins in straight sets (25-11, 25-13, 25-10) on Sept. 8 in a SCAL matchup to move to 7-1 (4-1).

The Lady Redskins jumped out to an early 6-3 lead before a serve into the net would tie it at eight. The Lady Redskins then scored the next nine points to take a commanding 17-8 lead.

The Lady Redskins outscored the Lady Trojans 8-3 over the next 11 points to take the first set 25-11 as the Lady Trojans served into the net for the set point.

In the second set, the Lady Redskins used another strong start as they led 12-4 early and didn’t look back.

A Lady Redskin kill forced a Lady Trojans timeout as they stretched their lead to 15-7, a kill from freshman Summer Hoying made it 18-10 and forced another Lady Trojans timeout and another Lady Trojans error gave the Lady Redskins the second set, 2513.

Hoying added six kills and has been inserted into the starting lineup after senior starter Ava Sholtis went down early in the season with an injury.

“We were planning on this being a teaching season for (Hoying),” said

Lady Redskins head coach John Rodgers. “But sometimes that’s not the way it works. She had to learn on the fly and she’s done a really nice job for us. She’s learning, still has a lot to do and learn but she’s smart and athletic. I will say my seniors are helping her along, their leadership, accepting her saying ‘hey it’s okay, you don’t have to be perfect.’ they’re doing a great jo of working with her.”

In the third set, the Lady Redskins scored the first five points as the Lady Trojans tried another timeout to slow the tide, they led by as many as 15 as they took the final set 25-10.

The Lady Redskins were led by senior Kenzie Hoelscher with 14 kills, junior Jada Drees had four aces, junior libero Riley Heitkamp had 13 digs and senior Maya Maurer had 21 assists.

“We’ve just continued to beat away at it in practice, getting the reps we need to in practice,” said Rodgers on the team’s response to Sholtis’ injury. “It’s starting to show with some of these younger players. They’re getting more comfortable, calm on the court. With Ava going down and jumping into a big match like that (Russia), it was a real eye opener for some of these inexperienced players. They’re starting to really figure it out and its huge. You down see the nervousness you saw before and they starting to calm down. Starting to recognize, watch film, and doing all the things they need to do to get better.”

On Sept. 12, the Lady Redskins beat Tri-Village in straight sets (32-30, 25-17, 25-17) to move to 8-1 (4-1).

Marion Local

The Marion Local girls volleyball team went a perfect 3-0 last week to improve to 9-0 (2-0) overall.

They beat Crestview on Sept. 8 in four sets (25-16, 25-20, 22-25, 2510), Coldwater on Sept. 10 in five sets (20-25, 25-20, 17-25, 25-12, 15-7) and Anna on Sept. 12 in straight sets (25-10, 25-8, 25-16).
