Grace Schmiesing Miss Oktoberfes­t 2020

MINSTER – Contestant No. 2, Grace Schmiesing, daughter of John and Jamie Schmiesing, was crowned Miss Oktoberfes­t 2020 for Oktoberfes­t 46 Saturday afternoon at the Halls of Hanover.

Sponsored by the Minster Knights of Columbus #2158, Miss Oktoberfes­t Schmiesing takes her rightful place in the line of succession of Oktoberfes­t queens.

Mason Pohl, daughter of Keith and Tricia Pohl, sponsored by H.A. Dorsten, Inc., was named 1st Runner Up.

Nora Schwartz, daughter of Jason Schwartz, Mark and Heather Bensman, sponsored by Mike and Ginny Bensman Family Farm, was named 2nd Runner Up.

Minster High School's Dorothy Bruns, queried the twelve young ladies vieing for the title. They were asked to introduce themselves, describe their dirndl dresses; if they could make one rule for the world that everyone had to follow, what would it be and why; their second was drawn from a bowl of questions; and finally, their favorite lunch from the school cafeteria.

Miss Oktoberfes­t Schmiesing responded that she was a Minster senior participat­ing in softball,, an assistant athletic trainer, senioir class treasurer, member of the National Honor Society and chairman of the Random

Acts of Kindness group which is part of the Youth Leadership Associatio­n. In her free time, she said, she likes to read, sing and spend time with family and friends. She thanked the Minster K. of C. for sponsoring her as well as naming her 2020 Youth of the Year. Her dress had bee given to her by close friend Alayna Albers,

her wooden shoe came from a school teacher in Germany who had given it to her mom. Her one rule was that everyone had to be kind to one another. Her bowl question was “Of all the things you are learning, which of those things will be most useful to you as an adult?” She responded that out of all thee things she's been learning this year, the most useful thing to her would be learning about personal finance and investing. She declared her favorite food from the cafeteria to be the buffalo chicken, as it's “spicy and so good.”
