- By SETH KINKER

The regular season for the Midwest Athletic Conference (MAC) and Shelby County Athletic League (SCAL) wrapped up on 10/17 with both conferences holding their conference meets.

Minster: The Wildcats have dominated the cross country scene in the MAC and continued that dominance this year. The girls won their 33rd overall MAC title, their eighth in a row, while the boys won their 13th conference title, their fourth in a row with both teams outplacing their nearest competition by 57 points.

Of the 11 girls earning First Team All-MAC honors, seven came from Minster; Ella Boate (18:44.45), Maggie Hemmelgarn (19:38.92), Taylor Roth (19:43.85), Mason Pohl (19:44.48), Chaney Cedarleaf (20:13.18), Cameo Cedarleaf (20:20.22) and Morgan Ketner (20:33.11).

Similar to the ladies, the boys also had seven make the First Team AllMAC list. The boys were Alex Albers (1st, 16:24.07), Joseph Slonkosky (3rd, 17:19.24), Jack Grieshop (4th, 17:19.70),

“All year we’ve been consistent, practicing hard and fast to make the games easier,” said senior linebacker Phil Trzaska. “That really hasn’t changed. Allen East runs a bit of an up-tempo offense, they’re a high powered offense I was happy we could stop.”

“Every turnover we could get was key,” added Trzaska. “I’ve got to turn it over to Johnny and the offense though, they did a nice job running the ball, keeping them off the field.”

The Wildcats outgained the Mustangs 304-210 with the Wildcats rushing 41 times for 173 yards, Nixon having 32 of those runs for 150 yards and a touchdown. Nixon also went 12-16 through the air for 131 yards and a touchdown.

The Wildcats responded by starting from their own 33-yard line, taking it down to the Mustang 3-yard line in nine plays. But a fumble before the goal line on a run play saw the Mustangs fall on the ball in the endzone for a touchback.
