Richter resigns from New Bremen council

NEW BREMEN — Councilman Brent Richter announced his resignation, effective immediately, during executive session at Monday night’s New Bremen village council meeting.

Before council adjourned the meeting, they entered into executive session to discuss personnel and litigation where councilman Richter announced his resignation from the council to pursue other interests.

Richter, a New Bremen resident since 2003, has been serving on the village council since Jan. 1, 2016 and serves on the utilities and streets committees. He is also the council delegate for the New Bremen Community Improvement

Corporation.

Council has 30 days to present a candidate and approve someone. If not, Mayor Bob Parker will be able to appoint someone. It will be further discussed at the council’s next meeting on Nov. 9.

In other business, Village Administrator Chris Dicke updated councilors on the state Route 274 and state Route 66 traffic signals projects as well as other projects going on in the village of New Bremen during her report.

Work has been taking place on state Route 274 in recent weeks with crews working on adding a left turn lane.

Dicke said the final cost for the road widening project was $545,905.61, which was about $38,000 less than the village had budgeted for.

“We’ve made some changes out there that helped that along so that’s really good,” she said.

The traffic signal poles are up and installed and Dicke said the intersection is functioning currently but it’s not at 100% and she expects there to be slight delays when traffic gets busy.

“I put out a OneCall today just to let everybody know that,” said

Dicke. “The pedestrian PEDS need to be put in and the radar detection is down and those people can’t come in until Wednesday. There’s going to be some delays getting through like when Crown lets out. There might be a little bit of waiting around for those lights to change.”

She said she hopes crews can get some of the roadside curb poured soon before the weather turns worse, adding they had to take out some of the sidewalk that was poured two weeks ago because it was rained on.

Dicke said Newcomer Concrete Services will be coming to pour more concrete.

“If we get all the curbs in, then Tom’s (Construction) can work on the roadway part which is the most critical and the sidewalks will get done after that,” she said. “The pedestrian buttons will be after the sidewalks are in. It’s a little bit of a process and the only thing I’m concerned with is getting the pavement down. Hopefully they push with that curb because then they can move forward with the pavement because it’s got to be 50 degrees. We’ve got a pretty good week coming up so I’m hoping.”
