Legion Auxiliary meets

-

The Minster American Legion Auxiliary held their meeting on Monday, October 19, at 7:00 pm. The meeting was opened by President Deb Meyer using all of the standard rituals. Members were led in prayer by chaplain Lois Wimmers. Roll call was taken and there were 7 members present. The minutes were read and approved with a motion by Lois Wimmers. The treasurer’s report was then given. It was approved with a motion by Ruth Brookhart and will be filed for audit. Members then reviewed the revised budget for 2021. It was discussed and then approved with a motion by Alice Moorman. The chairmen reports were highlighted. Buckeye Girls State Tea will be held in St. Henry this year. V.A & R. chairmen brought blankets and a $500 donation to the Food Pantry in Lima. They appreciated our donation very much. The veterans can go there once a month and can get supplies. They serve veterans from 11 counties in the area. We donated 29 gently used and 45 new blankets. Members need to keep track of your community service hours. The poppies should be ready to order soon for next May. Americanism chairman will be going to school to possibly set up programs for students.

Our membership goal is 61 members. We have 45 members registered and now is the time to renew your membership for 2021. Please do so as soon as possible, and if anyone would like to join contact Deb Meyer. On Monday, October 26th we will be providing the lunch for the Legion meeting. Members volunteered to help that evening and to bake brownies. A place to store the Oktoberfest trailer was found. The trailer will be there in storage and taken out when needed. In past years members provided snacks for the poll workers on Election Day, with all of the issues with this year, it was decided to skip this year and see what happens in the future. Unit #387 won many awards from District Two in our group level. Some of them are; the Presidents special project, Americanism, Juniors, V.A. & R., Children in Youth, Community Service, Chaplains report, Education and Honorable Mention in History.

For National Education Week we will be donating books to the school libraries. The Veteran’s Day at school will be held virtually this year. There was a motion by Diana Hausfeld to change our December meeting to the 15th so we can have a Christmas dinner at The Wooden Shoe, since they are closed on Mondays. The January meeting will be held on the 18th starting at 3:00 pm. We will be sewing that afternoon and evening on lap quilts and hugs and kisses. There was a motion by Lois Wimmers to allow purchase of flag in different sizes that will be used to donate and available for sale. Members also decided they want to collect new blankets and adult socks before Christmas which will be then taken to the V.A. Center. The pot of lettuce was won by Rita Olberding and the meeting was closed with a prayer.
