Looking back at motion picture laws, cablevision franchises

100 YEARS Ago Feb 25, 1921
The long expected bills to legitimatize the Sunday motion picture shows was introduced in the legislature. It was follows the line of the legislation proposed two years ago. There is an absolute prohibition against Sunday forenoon shows and local option upon afternoon and evening shows under the initiative and referendum. Prospects of passage are regarded to be far from bright.
Promise for the Boxing Fans in Minster – Two lively Bouts and a Battle Royal Ought to suffice. The boxing match is to be staged under the auspices of the Minster Post No. 387, American Legion on Tuesday night and the boys have set themselves to make this affair just as enjoyable as anything that the local post has ever staged. In order that the match may be pulled off in an approved manner the council has named a city boxing commission which is made up of men who have more than a passing knowledge of the game.
Organist A.H. Knapke and Mrs. Knapke welcome a daughter into their home and there has been much commotion in that household since. The dad is already on the help that the Miss will be in lifting daily burdens from his shoulders as a pedagogue and the duties at the church organ.
Vets Will Eat Chicken – The members of the Minster post American Legion are arranging for a big chicken dinner at the Laut hall on next Monday evening. They will not only feed the members of the Legion but they will prepare eats sufficient to satisfy all of the world war veterans in this locality. An invitation has been extended to every ex-vet in the community to be present at the hall and enjoy the eats with the Legion boys and to talk war reminiscence with their comrades.
Mr. William Thieman, the mail driver, is leading a quiet life this week and when through with his mail route for the day he tries his hand at cooking as Mrs. Thieman is visiting with her parents at DeGraff
for the week. 75 YEARS AGO Feb 22, 1946
Brothers’ Quartet Reunited First Time In Four Years – Minster widow’s three sons released by armed Forces, fourth on leave – The four sons of Mrs. Johanna Moorman, Minster widow residing on South Main St., who served in the armed forces in the war were reunited the first time in four years this week. Last to arrive was Captain Edward Moorman, chaplain with the Army. First to enter the service was Paul Moorman released with rating of technical Sergeant. Sill in the Navy 20 months after his induction is Eugene F. Moorman, soundman third class. Fourth member of the quartet is Richard Moorman who was inducted by the Marine Corps May 23, 1945.
Unusual Record. – Daily Attendance At Mass For 27 Years Revealed – Unusual record of having assisted daily at Mass and Communion for a period of 27 years was revealed this week for a parishioner of St. Augustine church. The parishioner is Mrs. Robert C. Schmieder, who, it was revealed further, has filled many requests for aid from sailors of the Pacific fleet, through her son (chaplain) Commander Lawrence R. Schmieder.
21 Members Signed For VFW Post Here – Twenty-one members were signed for a Veterans of Foreign Wars post being formed in Minster, at a meeting held at Rulmann Restaurant. Joseph Miller was appointed as acting commander and Thomas Froning as acting quartermaster.
St. Augustine’s church was the scene of an impressive nuptual ceremony in which Miss Annabelle Wagner, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Wagner exchanged vows with Richard Schwieterman, son of Mr. and Mrs. A.H. Schwieterman. The bride has been employed as a clerk in her father’s store, the grrom is a salesman for the New Bremen Implement Co.

50 YEARS AGO Feb 25, 1971
Hoying And Westerheide Mark 50th – This week marks the fiftieth business anniversary of one of the community’s oldest firms, Hoying and Westerheide Hardware. The company was founded in 1921 when the stock and buildings of Theodore Kempker and Son were purchased by Louis I. Hoying and Joseph Westerheide. The first addition to the store was completed in 1927 after a disastrous fire had destroyed the warehouse. In 1932 the building of John Bollheimer was added which housed the appliance department which was later sold to Gudorf and Moorman.
Minster, New Bremen, Ft. Loramie Consider Cablevision Franchise – A feasibility study has been conducted concerning the possibility of bringing cable television to Minster, New Bremen and Ft. Loramie by an Ada Based cable television service.
Minster Flower Shop to Reopen – Martin’s Flowers and Gifts with headquarter in Ft. Loramie, have announced an expansion of their business to include operation on the Minster Flower shop.
PFC Joseph Budde, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Budde has reported to the Alaskan Command of the US Army at Anchorage, Alaska. PFC Budde graduated from Minster High School in 1966 and received a Bachelor’s degree in education from BGSU in 1970
