Hoying called up for Toronto
Jared Hoying, a graduate of Fort Loramie High School, was added to the major league roster for the Toronto Blue Jays last week.
Outfielder Teoscar Hernandez of the Blue Jays has been placed on the paternity list, with Hoying selected to fill the spot on the team’s roster.
Hoying, 32, throws right-handed and bats left-handed. He was drafted by Texas in the 10th round of the 2010 draft from the University of Toledo.
He made his major league debut in May of 2016. That year, Hoying hit .217 with five RBI during 38 games for the Rangers.
He hit .222 with a home run and seven RBI for the Rangers in 2017.
He was briefly with the Los Angeles Angels, and also played parts of three seasons in South Korea with the Hanwha Eagles of the KBO League.
Hoying had a batting line of .306/.373/.573 with 30 home runs during his first season.
In 2019, Hoying re-signed with the Eagles and hit 18 home runs and totaled 73 RBI.
He re-signed with Hanwha for the 2020 season and was waived by the Eagles last June.
Hoying made his first appearance this season on June 18 and started his first game as a Blue Jay on June 19, playing in left field.
So far this season, he’s appeared in two games for the Blue Jays, getting three appearances so far.
In 2010 for the Spokane Indians, he hit .325 including 10 home runs, 20 stolen bases and 79 hits in 62 games.
He made the Northwest League All-Star team and was named the most valuable player at the end of the season.
