Flyers, Cards win openers
WAPAKONETA — Double the time of possession led double amount of yards for the Marion Local Flyers on Friday night, defeating Wapakoneta in its first game of the year, 31-6.
The Flyers accumulated 324 yards of total offense to Wapakoneta’s 154 yards.
Peyton Otte led the way for the Flyers with 141 yards on the ground and a touchdown.
Kyle Otte was a workhorse on Friday also, carrying the ball 25 times for 115 yards and a score.
Peyton was also solid through the air, going 6-of-10 for 45 yards a touchdown pass to Aidan Eifert with 8:41 left in the second quarter.
Notable performances for the Redskins include Braeden Goulet going 7-for-14 through the air for 74 yards and a touchdown. On the ground, Goulet carried the ball 10 times for 58 yards.
Kaleb Walter caught the ball three times for 25 yards and a touchdown.
The Flyers will be back on the road this Friday when they travel to McComb.
MARION, Ind. — The defending state champions opened its season across state lines on Friday, as the Cardinals came, saw and conquered the Marion Giants 28-14.
New Bremen’s David Homan was solid in his debut as starting quarterback, completing eight passes for 51 yards though the air and running the ball 16 times for 103 yards and a touchdown on the ground.
Colten Muether saw significant action as well, carrying the ball 20 times for 86 yards and a touchdown.
Trevor Bergman was the Cardinals leading receiver on Friday, catching five passes for 35 yards.
Nathan Rindler led the way on defense, recording six tackles and one interception. Kyle Leichliter recorded four tackles with 2.5 of them recorded as tackles for loss.
