Flyers earn shutout, Wildcats blanked

ST. HENRY — The Flyers didn’t score first, but they ran the table the rest of the game as Marion Local defeated St. Henry 20-7 on Friday.

St. Henry’s Owen Lefeld kicked off the scoring on Friday with a 2-yard touchdown run with 6:47 left in the first quarter. The Flyers wasted zero time returning the favor as Drew Lause returned the ensuing kickoff 80 yards for the Marion Local score.

It would be all Marion Local the rest of the way. Peyton Otte scored on a 6-yard touchdown run late in the second quarter and Kyle Otte ran for a 29-yard touchdown with 6:08 left in the third quarter. The two-point conversion was no good, but that left us with the final score of 20-7.

Kyle Otte ran the ball nine times for 78 yards and a touchdown. Peyton Otte carried the ball 13 times for 65 yards and a touchdown.

Dylan Fleck led the Flyers on defense, recording 11 tackles. Darren Meier recorded seven tackles with two tackles for loss. Nathan Buschur recorded four tackles and an intercepti­on.

Delphos St. John’s 27, Minster 0

DELPHOS — It was a tough night for the Wildcats as they traveled to Delphos to face the Blue Jays in a Midwest Athletic Conference contest.

The Blue Jays struck early on Friday as Nolan Schwinnen connected with J.J. Bonifas for 76 yards for the game’s first score to put DSJ up 7-0.

Delphos St. John’s would strike again in the second quarter.

Following a 58-yard intercepti­on return by Braysen Schulte, Schwinnen would score on Delphos’ first play of the drive, keeping it for six yards and the score to put the Blue Jays up 14-0.

Following a third quarter opening punt by Minster, the Blue Jays score again with 5:50 left on the clock when Clay Paddubny rushed for a 7-yard touchdown.

Later in the third, the Blue Jays scored for the final time with Schwinnen and Bonifas again hooking up for a 25-yard touchdown to make it 27-0.

Brogan Stephey carried the ball 17 times on Friday for 91 yards.

Defensivel­y, Charlie Schmiesing led the way for the Wildcats, recording six solo tackles and one for loss. Alex Frimel recorded three tackles with 2.5 tackles for loss.

Newark Catholic 41, Fort Loramie 40

NEWARK — The Fort Loramie Redskins found themselves in an offensive shootout on Friday, coming up short against Newark Catholic, 41-40.

The Redskins trailed 41-27 in the third quarter but a Darren Eilerman run for one yard at the goal line put Fort Loramie down 41-34.

Later, Caleb Maurer hooked up with Gabe Meyer for a 21-yard touchdown. Electing to go for two to take the lead, Jacob Sherman was stopped short during his fun and ultimately Fort Loramie lost by one.

Maurer went 18-for-35 Friday with 266 yards and three touchdowns. He ran the ball 10 times for 11 yards and a score.

Sherman carried the ball 22 times for 85 yards and a touchdown.

Eilerman caught seven passes for 120 yards and a touchdown. Meyer caught four balls for 66 yards and two touchdowns.
