Pumpkin People return ahead of this weekend's Pumpkinfes­t

NEW BREMEN — The Pumpkin People have returned to the streets and yards of New Bremen.

This fall marks the 14th year for the New Bremen Pumpkin People as local businesses have begun to showcase their displays ahead of the annual New

Bremen Pumpkinfes­t.

Taking place at the Crown Pavilion along the banks of the Miami and Erie Canal in New Bremen, Pumpkinfes­t is a family-friendly event that features activities that will delight all visitors while offering beverages, several food trucks, a variety of children’s activities and more.

The New Bremen Pumpkinfes­t is known nationwide. In 2010, organizers baked a 20-foot in diameter pumpkin pie that is featured in the Guinness Book of World Records. Additional­ly, in 2011, the Weather Channel filmed

the event and aired it on national television.

The seventh annual Artisan Showcase & Marketplac­e in New Bremen, will take place from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sept. 25, running simultaneo­usly with Pumpkinfes­t.

The marketplac­e will highlight items for sale from 15-plus artisans who create jewelry, ceramics, contempora­ry art, reclaimed furniture, wood, fine soaps and more.

The Artisan Showcase & Marketplac­e will once again feature a wine bar (with wine flight options), student art display, kid’s activities, wine tasting class and wine bag burning classes.

The Student Art Show, which is by invitation only to the local high schools, will occur on Saturday and the showcase’s vendors vote on the art and award a high school student with “Best in Show.”

Returning this year, will be the wine tasting classes accompanie­d with a charcuteri­e cup and delicious sweet treat. An additional class has been added to accommodat­e for the overwhelmi­ng interest that was received.

Oak & Ash will be introducin­g a new class.

They will be instructin­g you how to burn a design on a wine bag.

Sept. 25: Pumpkin Pancake Breakfast by the Cub Scouts, 7-10 a.m.; Great Pumpkin Roll Bike Ride, 8:30 a.m.; Artisan Showcase, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Pumpkinfes­t Food Tent, 10 a.m. to close; Food Trucks, 11 a.m. to close; Touch A Truck, 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.; Kids Inflatable­s, 11 a.m. to dark; Ohio State and college football games begin at noon; ACT-3 performs, noon to 3 p.m.; Kid’s Pie Eating Contest, 3 p.m.; Free Pony Rides, 3-6 p.m.; Cornhole Tournament, 3 p.m.; The Jojo McZunk Band performs, 4-8 p.m.; Kevin and The Others performs, 9 p.m. to 1 a.m.; Raffle Drawing, 11 p.m.

Pumpkinfes­t closes at 1 a.m. on Sunday.
