Village discusses new appropriat­ions for 2022

NEW BREMEN — New Bremen village council members discussed appropriat­ions for 2022 at its meeting on Monday night.

Fiscal Officer Amy Speelman informed council on some of the big projects that the village will take on next year.

One project will be the Jefferson Street reconstruc­tion which Speelman estimates the village’s local share will be $1.16 million.

Speelman said the remainder will be on the purchase of the firetruck which will cost the village $395,000.

The resin media filter in the water plant will be replaced at a cost of $196,000.

“That’s going to help our solids in the wastewater numbers,” said Village Administra­tor Brent Richter.

Also, the principal amount for the Komminsk farmland that the village purchased last year is due on Dec. 31, 2022 to the cost of $1.5 million.

Along with the farmland, the village had discussed paying off that loan this year as well as the Police and EMS building and the public works building.

but she hoped to have the completed by the end of the week.

In other business:

• Larger reported

November expenses were $1,058,791.72 and October receipts were $1,135,400.47.

• Richter informed

council that the south water has a “slow leak” and he was investigat­ing that.

• The wastewater and

water rates study findings will be presented at the next council meeting on Dec. 13. The village commission­ed the study through the Ohio Rural Community Assistance Program.

• Richter said the replacemen­t blower was installed at the wastewater plant on Monday and that it would be operationa­l on Tuesday. • Richter said the village conducted a villagewid­e water leak detection test and identified two locations with the leaks. He said while they know the area, crews are still trying to pinpoint where the leaks are coming from.

• Council completed

a first reading on of an ordinance that would approve Jason This as village solicitor for next year at $16,000 annually.

• Council heard a second reading for the village to accept salt bids from Artesian of Pioneer.

• Council completed a third reading and passed an ordinance authorizin­g the village to sell personal property on GovDeals.com for 2022.

• Mayor Bob Parker

reminded councilors that the Christmas Tree Lighting will be held at 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 29.
