Area teams compete in Bluffton Invite

LIMA — Teams from Minster, New Bremen and Marion Local competed last week at the 2021 Bluffton Holiday Invitation­al at the Lima YMCA.

There were 23 teams that competed in the event.

Wapakoneta won the boys title with a score of 500 points while Shawnee placed second and St. Marys was third. Minster finished fifth, New Bremen finished eighth and Marion Local finished in 11th place.

On the girls side, Ottawa-Glandorf took home the crown with a score of 287 points. Versailles finished second and Wapakoneta was third. New Bremen finished fifth with a score of 147, Minster was 14th and Marion Local finished in a tie for 17th with Fort Loramie.

Cameo Cedarleaf won the girls 100 yard freestyle with a time of 58.82.

New Bremen’s Caroline Whitlatch finished fourth in the girls 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:33.15.

Lucas Stammen finished fourth in the boys 200 yard individual medley with a time of 2:17.13 for Minster.

In the girls 50 yard freestyle, Cameo Cedarleaf of Minster finished third with a time of 26.17 and Kylie Niekamp of Marion Local finished fourth with a time of 26.21.

In the boys 50 yard freestyle, Alex Albers of Minster finished with a time of 23.65 for a third place finish and Andy Jiang finished fourth with a time of 23.70.

In the girls 100 yard butterfly, New Bremen’s Gia Johnson finished fourth with a time of 1:07.04.

Stammen took sixth place in the boys 100 yard butterfly with a time of 1:00.53.

Jiang finished third in the boys 100 yard freestyle with a time of 51.58.

The team of Olivia Heitkamp, Whitlatch, Katie Fleming and Gia Johnson took fourth in the girls 200 freestyle relay with a time of 1:51.63.

The team of Alex Albers, Ryan Halpin, Russell Heid and Lucas Stammen took fourth in the boys 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:40.49 and the team of Simon Partington, Wyatt Greenwood, Kevin Partington and Riley Bruns took fifth with a time of 1:41.70.

The Minster squad also took fourth in the boys 400 yard freestyle with a time of 3:45.27.

Gia Johnson took fourth in the girls 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:06.81.
