100 Years Ago Jan. 26, 1923

Ku Klux Klan Stages Demonstrat­ions not many miles distant from Minster – Parade in Portland, Indiana, and Flaming Cross in Allen County – There is no longer reason to doubt there are Ku Klux Klanners in this section of the world.

It is estimated that more than 50 new rigs are being erected in the oil fields of Darke County at the present time.

While at other business places in Minster the work has gone forward under a handicap owing to so much sickness in the locality, which has caused many of the employees to retire from duty temporaril­y Louis Hoying of the Hoying – Westerheid­e hardware company, is one of the scores of persons who have been hugging the kitchen stove to find comfort while the troublesom­e grippe makes them feel miserable from foot to crown. The manufactur­ing firm that has operated in Minster during the past several years under the name of the J.J. Dues machine company now have the legal right to head all of their stationary etc., with the very significan­t name “The J.J. Dues Machine Company”. They have taken out incorporat­ion papers under the law of the state of Ohio. 75 Years Ago Jan. 23, 1948

Bids Asked For Building Addition at Egypt School – District will sell bonds in amount of $10,000 to finance project – Sealed bids are being received by Joseph Sommer, clerk of the board of education of the Jackson township No. 2 rural school district, for furnishing of material and labor for constructi­on and completion of an addition to the Egypt grade school building. A toilet room and sewage disposal plant are to be provided. Raymond Earl Heads Lake Loramie Group – Raymond Earl of Minster was elected president of the Lake Loramie Improvemen­t associatio­n at the annual meeting of the group attended by nearly 100 members of the Lake Loramie Hotel. Former Minsterite Dies in Cincinnati – Minster relatives received word last week that Anthony Goehr, 79, a native of Minster who succumbed in the home of his daughter, Mrs. Elizabeth Finn. Mr. Goehr, a builder all of his life, designed and built the wooden monument now standing in the old section of the St. Augustine cemetery, which marks his father’s grave.

Henry Drees, Paul Bensman, Othmar Osterloh and Elmer Riethman were named as delegates to represent the Minster Young Farmers associatio­n (YFA) at a conference of the Ohio associatio­n at Columbus. Daryl F. Sharp, agricultur­al instructor at Minster High School also will attend.

50 Years Ago Jan. 25, 1973 Mary Frances Vallo became the bride of Timothy Richard Ahrns on December at St. Augustine Church. Mary is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Melvin Vallo. Timothy is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Ahrns. Father James Miller performed the ceremony. Minster FFA Team Receives Gold Rating – The Minster FFA Senior parliament­ary team rated gold in this year’s annual county parliament­ary procedure contest.
