100 Years Ago March 2, 1923

Messrs. Charles Lauferswei­ler, Benjamin Hegemann, and A.W. Frierott motored to Wapakoneta and attended the Elks initiation held there. Mr. Frierott was one of the members of a class of candidates initiated into the secret of the order. Mr. Frierott reports that the goat used at the Elks initiatory work is a well-trained animal and knows his business.

Minster School Notes – On Tuesday the Minster High Basketball Team had as the opponents the Botkins H.S. Five. The home boys outplayed and out classed their rivals in all stages of the game and added another victory to their credit. The final score was 54 to 16.

Resolution endorsing the Ku Klux Klan and denouncing the recent conduct toward Klan headquarte­rs in Springfiel­d, Ohio were adopted by the Campbell County Kentucky Ministeria­l Associatio­n.

Miss Minnie Kuhlman is spending a few days in Cincinnati this week studying the styles in spring millinery and making purchases for the Kuhlman millinery store.

Each person who got either a hair cut or shave, or both, at the Alex Frey barber shop on last Saturday was remembered with a smoke at the expense of the proprietor. The reason for this unusual favor, as explained by the proprietor and his helpers, was that he was on that date celebratin­g his tenth anniversar­y as the head of one of Minster’s popular tonsorial parlors.

75 Years Ago Feb. 27, 1948

Grade School Pupils Date Spring Program – Pupils of the first, fifth and seventh grades of Minster public schools will present their spring program in the high school auditorium on March 7. The program will be open to the public and tickets may be purchased from the school children.

Maurice C. Bernhold, special agent for the Ohio State Life Insurance Co. with the Celina agency the last seven years, was honored by his associates when 24 agents and their wives gathered at Earl’s Island for a chicken and steak dinner.

Miss Minnie Kuhlman, who is in Cincinnati, attended a concert of the Cincinnati symphony orchestra as the guest of Miss Margaret Wetzel.

Albert Wolf, owner of the New City Hotel where the local bus station is located, said this week times of arrival and departures of buses will be changed.

50 Years Ago March 1, 1973

Minster Fire Station Location Set – The Village Council has decided to proceed with the constructi­on of the Fire Station at Fourth and Hanover Streets, across from the present fire station. We are abiding by the public’s vote at the November election.

Two Minster Women Named to Deans List at Mt St Joseph – Pamela Winner (freshman) daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C.G. Winner and Amy Slonkosky (junior) daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J.P. Slonkosky were listed.

Winner of Head Award – Robert L. Aselage, currently a graduate student at the Maryland Institute College of Art, Hoffberger School of Painting, was the winner of the Mr. and Mrs. Howard Head Award of $250 for his 8x10 foot enamel painting entitled “The Stripper”. Robert is a graduate of Minster High School in 1964. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Leo Aselage.
