NEW ALBANY - Eileen J. Day, 79, passed away on Friday July 30, 2021 at the University of Louisville Hospital Stroke Center. She was the former Eileen Coons, born in Louisville, Ky. on June 25, 1942 to the late Henry and Josephine Coons. Eileen’s education from grade school through college was provided by the Ursuline Order of Sisters. Eileen studied music at Ursuline College and performed in many theatrical roles. She went on to perform for the Kentucky Opera and Shakespeare in the Park in Central Park. She taught piano and voice in her home and was the director of the Harvest Homecoming Hymn Sing for two years. Eileen directed the traditional choir at Our Lady of Perpetual Help church in New Albany, IN. Once leaving that post she continued to share her talents on the Liturgy Committee and was also co-director the Eucharistic Ministry and Greeter Committee. She was always proud of her 37 years working in parish liturgy.

Her love of music and theatre introduced her to her partner-for-life and husband, Raymond Day. Together they marketed Ray’s artwork through the Ray Day Studio. Their involvement in the art world resulted in shared travels all across the country and abroad.

Eileen is survived by her husband of 55 years, Raymond Day, her sister, Denise Coons, her great joys: her daughter, Jennifer Martin, son-in-law John Martin and two grandchildren, Kalena and Vincent, and several nieces, nephews, and cousins, including her cousin-like-a-brother: Tony Zipfel.

Her Celebration of Life liturgy will be held at 10 AM Wednesday August 4, 2021 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church (1752 Scheller Ln., New Albany, IN.) with burial in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Market Street Chapel of Naville & Seabrook Funeral Homes (1119 E. Market St.) from 2 – 8 PM Tuesday.

Eileen and Ray ask that expressions of sympathy be directed to the Ursuline Sisters of Louisville (3115 Lexington Rd, Louisville, KY 40206) or Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church (1752 Scheller Ln, New Albany, IN 47150).
