LOUISVILLE - Walter Frederick Hespelt (19272021)

Walter Frederick Hespelt, a Christian by faith, died peacefully on July 29. Walt was born in Springfiel­d, MA on October 16, 1927, the first son of Walter and Frances (O’Neal) Hespelt. Walt grew up in Springfiel­d and attended the local schools and was educated at Springfiel­d Technical High, Suffield Academy and American Internatio­nal College where he played on the Football, Baseball and Hockey Teams. He was a prominent golfer in the area in the 60’s and 70’s, being a long time member of Ludlow Country Club and Veterans Memorial Golf Course. He retired from Shawmut First Bank in 1992 where he served as a Loan Officer and Assistant Vice President. He is a Navy veteran of World War II.

Walt met his present wife, Sue, in Fort Myers, Fl where they married in 1995 and lived for ten years before relocating to Louisville, KY. He enjoyed spending winters in FL from 2006-2018.

He is predecease­d by his wife of 42 years, Antoinette (Toni Bator) Hespelt, his parents and his brother, Peter Hespelt. He and Toni were long time residents of the 16 Acres area where their children grew up.

He is survived by his wife of 25 years, Sue Schafer Hespelt, his children Susan Hespelt, Michael (Lisa) Hespelt, Holly (Brian) Serewicz, Terri Tyree, Tami (Robby) Watrous, and Traci Spath. Bimpa (Grandfathe­r) to Justin (Susie) Dinnie, Matthew (Colleen) Mayer, Sarah (James) Mayer, Garrett Meadors, Lauren (Stewart) Brown, Nicholas (Jaclyn) Spath, Abbey Spath and Madison (Jordan) Streigel, Great Grandsons, Anthony and Nicholas Dinnie and Caden Spath. Also survived by his sister, Judy Brennan. Visitation: Thursday, August 5 from 2:00-7:00, with service to follow.
