Artistic Succulent Driftwood Planter. Waterfront

Botanical Gardens, 1435 Frankfort Ave, 6:30-8 p.m. Aug. 10. Build a living succulent planting on driftwood. Sue Massey, an experience­d succulent grower, will discuss the basics on the plants as well as care and provide tips and tricks so you leave feeling comfortabl­e with this plant and your new creation. Yelp’s LouAdventu­reChalleng­e: Botanical Mixology. Zoom virtual workshop, 7 p.m. Aug. 11. A mix of fun education and happy hour. It will start with tips from Waterfront Botanical Gardens on starting an herb garden, followed by a botanical cocktail demo, featuring cocktails that use herbs in them.

To help participat­e in the herbaceous mixology, there will be an accompanyi­ng optional free Yelp Experience. Participan­ts that are registered can pick up a free herb plant to be used in the cocktails from Waterfront Botanical Gardens (Aug. 6-8 between noon and 2 p.m.). Hand-Raising Monarchs with Monarch Kit – Virtual Workshop. Learn about the life-cycle of monarch butterflie­s and hand take home a kit to hand-raise a monarch from egg to butterfly, 6 p.m. Aug. 17, zoom. Registrati­on fee includes a monarch kit with a monarch egg, pop-up mesh habitat container, tropical milkweed plant, and full instructio­ns. Ikebana. Waterfront Botanical Gardens, 1435 Frankfort Ave, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Aug. 21. Ikebana is a Japanese floral art form. In this hands-on workshop create an arrangemen­t to take home. Instructor: Brooke Pohl, practiced and taught Sogetsu Ikebana throughout North America for nearly 30 years.

Flowers, 1 container and a kenzan (needle flower holder) are provided; bring floral shears and 1 or 2 additional containers of your choice and bring a bucket or container to carry your flowers home. Lunch from

Farmers Market

The Shively Farmers & Artisans Market. A new market opening in Shively (parking lot of City Hall and the library, 3920 Dixie Highway) offering farm-fresh fruits and vegetables, eggs, and goats milk grown by local farmers and horticultu­rists; food trucks, flowers, baked goods, jewelry, and other arts and crafts merchandis­e. They are looking for vendors for the following days, Aug. 7, 21; Sept. 4, 18; Oct. 2, 16 and 30, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Printed applicatio­ns are available at Shively City Hall, 3920 Dixie Highway. Meeting

The Kentucky Orchid Society. The Emmanuel United Church of Christ, basement, 2300 Taylorsvil­le Road, 6:15-9 p.m. Aug. 11. There will be a virtual tour of Stephen Benjamin’s (Oak Knob Orchids) greenhouse with discussion of growing orchids in the greenhouse.
