Louisville native Nicole Scherzinger wins UK theater award for ‘Sunset Boulevard’
An actress with Louisville ties recently won big at the 2024 Olivier Awards, one of the most prestigious award ceremonies for theater in the United Kingdom. Nicole Scherzinger — singer, songwriter, dancer and actress — won Best Actress in a Musical for her appearance in “Sunset Boulevard” at Sunday’s Olivier Awards, according to London Theatre.
Nicole Scherzinger has Louisville connections
While she was born in Honolulu in 1978, Scherzinger was raised in the Louisville area. She graduated from du-Pont Manual’s Youth Performing Arts School in 1996 and often performed at The Actors Theatre of Louisville, as previously reported by The Courier Journal.
She later became a member of the Pussycat Dolls, and received a Grammy nomination in 2006 for the group’s song “Stickwitu,” and has appeared on reality shows like “The Masked Singer” and “Dancing with the Stars.”

Scherzinger was announced as best actress for her performance as Norma Desmond in “Sunset Boulevard” on April 14. Other nominees in the musical category included Natasha Hodgson in “Operation Mincemeat,” Caissie Levy in “Next to Normal” and Marisha Wallace in “Guys & Dolls,” according to London Theatre.
“Sunset Boulevard,” a 1950 American black comedy film, was adapted as a musical and performed originally in 1993 and again on Broadway in 2017, according to Andrew Lloyd Webber. The most recent version, starring Scherzinger, is ongoing, with shows continuing in September.
