Dutchmen fall to Owls on the road
The St. Marys Area Flying Dutchmen were in action on the road against Bradford on Wednesday evening, with the Owls sending the Dutch home with a 55-43 loss.
Bradford’s Talan Reese led all scorers with 19 points in the game. Tanner Fox was the leading scorer for the Dutchmen with 10.
Bradford jumped out to a 14-9 lead by the end of the opening quarter. Fox scored five of SMA’s points in the frame with a pair of twos and a one-for-two showing from the foul line. Quin Gavazzi and Charlie Coudriet each added a bucket for the Dutch.
In the second quarter, Bradford outscored St. Marys 13-10 to take a 27-19 halftime lead. Anthony Nedzinski and Gavazzi each hit a three for St. Marys in the frame while Fox and Coudriet each made a bucket.
Bradford put 14 more points on the board in the third quarter while St. Marys again scored 10, making the score 41-29. Nedzinski led the Dutch in the frame with four points on a pair of twos, and Fox, Tyler Mitchell, and Coudriet each made a bucket.
Both teams scored 14 points in the final frame, setting the final score at 55-43 in favor of the Owls. Matt Davis led the Dutchmen with five points on a two and a three-point play, Dan Schutz scored three points on a two and a one-for-two effort from the foul line, Gavazzi hit another three, Mitchell made a pair of foul shots, and Fox went one-for-two from the line.
The Dutchmen return to action at home on Friday night when they play host to DuBois Area. Junior varsity action begins at 6 p.m. with the varsity game to follow. Friday’s game will also be Elementary Night.
