Seasons end for Johnsonburg Rams, Ridgway Lady Elkers
The Johnsonburg Rams saw their season come to an end with a 43-39 loss to Keystone on Monday night in a consolation game in the D9 1A boys' basketball tournament.
Johnsonburg was the fourth seed in the tournament and Keystone was the seventh seed. Both teams lost their quarterfinal matchups on Friday night, with the Rams falling to Cameron County 40-37 and the Panthers losing to DCC 57-26. The losses put them in the consolation bracket along with Smethport and Clarion battling for the fifth and final advancement spot for the state tournament.
Monday's matchup went in the Rams' favor through the first two quarter, as they outscored the Panthers in both frames and led 25-19 at halftime. However, Keystone started to close the gap in the third quarter and rallied for the win in the fourth.
Keystone's Cole Henry led all scorers with 21 points, 14 of which were scored in the second half.
Isaiah Jackson led the Rams with 15 points and Jake Lobaugh was also in double figures with 10.
In Monday's other D9 1A boys' consi, Clarion
reportedly defeated Smethport 83-28.
Clarion and Keystone will face off on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Clarion-Limestone High School to determine which squad will be the fifth place team from D9 and advance to the state tournament.
In D9 1A girls' consolation game action, the Ridgway Lady Elkers also saw their season come to an end as they lost to Clarion 41-36 in a matchup played at St. Marys Area High School.
Ridgway entered the tournament as the sixth seed and lost to third seeded North Clarion last Thursday by a score of 49-33. Clarion, the seventh seed, lost to second seeded ECC 47-28.
As was the case in the boys' tournament, both squads were competing in a consolation bracket for the chance at the final advancement spot for the state tournament.
In Monday's other 1A girls' consi, fifth seeded Port Allegany faced eighth seeded Northern Potter. Port lost to fourth seeded DCC 54-30 on Friday while Northern Potter lost to top seeded Otto-Eldred 57-38. The Lady Gators won Monday's matchup 45-41 and will face Clarion later this week to determine which squad will advance to states.
