PIAA 1A boys’ quarterfinals happening tonight
The quarterfinals of the 2023 PIAA 1A Boys’ Basketball Championship are set to be played tonight, the four games split between three sites across the state.
In the western half of the bracket, both matchups will be played as a doubleheader at North Allegheny High School in Wexford.
In Tuesday’s second round, District 7 champion Imani Christian Academy defeated District 9 runner-up Union 80-48, District 10 champion Farrell defeated District 6 runner-up Harmony 86-65, District 7 runner-up Union Area defeated
District 9 fourth place team Cameron County 51-37, and District 7 third place team Carlynton defeated District 9 champion Elk County Catholic 49-44.
Tonight’s matchups will see Imani take on Farrell at 6 p.m. followed by Union and Carlynton facing off at 7:30 p.m.
In the eastern half of the bracket, District 3 champion Linville Hille – the only undefeated team in the 1A boys’ bracket, defeated District 12 champion City School on Tuesday 50-42 and will face District 1 champion Chester Charter Academy tonight at 7 p.m. at Avon Grove High School in West Grove. Chester Charter defeated District 4 runner-up Northumberland
Christian 56-38 on Tuesday.
In the other quarterfinal in the east, District 1 runner-up Philmont Christian will take on District 5 champion Berlin Brothersvalley at 7 p.m. at Mechanicsburg Area High School. Philmont Christian defeated District 3 fifth place team Mount Calvary 57-46 on Tuesday, and Berlin
defeated District 3 fourth place team LaAcademia 74-63.
The winners of tonight’s quarterfinal games will face off in semifinal matchups on Monday at sites and times to be determined.
The PIAA 1A boys’ state championship is scheduled to be played on Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Giant Center in Hershey.
