Klawuhn reaches milestone in Lady Crusaders’ win

ECC senior Lucy Klawuhn matched Kane in scoring in the teams’ road matchup on Monday night, reaching the milestone for most threes in school history for the Lady Crusaders in the process. Klawuhn and Kane both scored 29 points in the game, with Klawuhn making seven threes to become the all-time leader in three pointers for the Lady Crusades with 167. The record was previously held by Macy Neureiter.

The Lady Crusaders won Monday’s game by a score of 65-29.

In addition to Klawuhn’s milestone night, Sydney Alexander was also in double figures for ECC with 15 points.

Leah Tigani led Kane with 14 points.

ECC outscored Kane 23-2 in the opening quarter. Klawuhn led the Lady Crusaders with 13 points in the frame on three threes and a pair of twos. Alexander scored five points on a three and a two, Emily Mourer and Gina Geci each made a bucket, and Mya Pistner made a foul shot. A field goal by Tigani accounted for all of Kane’s points in the quarter.

The second quarter saw the Lady Crusaders edge the Lady Wolves 10-9 to take a 33-11 halftime lead. Klawuhn and Tori Newton each made a pair of twos for ECC, and Sami Straub added a bucket. Maya Smith scored six points for Kane on a trio of twos, Hailey Hillman went two-for-two from the foul line, and Hailee Sheaffer went one-fortwo from the line.

The third quarter saw ECC outscore Kane 23-9 to increase their lead to 56-20. Klawuhn scored nine points on a trio of threes, Mourer put up six points on three twos, Alexander scored four points on a pair of twos, and Straub added four points on a field goal and a pair of foul shots. Tigani scored six points for Kane, and Smith made a field goal and a foul shot.

Both teams put nine points on the board in the final quarter, with ECC leaving with the 65-29 win. All of ECC’s points were on threes as Alexander made two and Klawuhn had one. Tigani made a pair of threes for Kane, and Hillman went threefor-four from the foul line.

The Lady Crusaders return to action tonight on the road against DuBois Area. The junior varsity game begins at 6 p.m. with the varsity contest to follow.
