ECC girls’ junior varsity team pulls away against Kane

A 19-point game by Lena Polaski helped lead the Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader junior varsity team to a 37-24 win over the visiting Kane Lady Wolves on Monday evening at Elk County Catholic High School.

Bailey Thorwart also finished in double figures for ECC with 10 points.

Hailee Sheaffer was the leading scorer for Kane with eight points.

Kane took an early lead in the game, outscoring ECC 9-8 in the opening quarter. Lily Wymer led the Lady Wolves with five points in the frame on a threepoint play and a two, and Sara Ely and Alexa Olmstead each made a bucket. Polaski scored her first four points of the night with a pair of twos for ECC, Thorwart made a bucket, and Sofiya Cherry went twofor-two from the foul line.

ECC used a 10-5 advantage in the second quarter to take an 1814 halftime lead. Polaski scored six points in the quarter for the Lady Crusaders with three twos, and Thorwart and Arianna Gurosik each made a bucket. Matia Brown made a field goal and went one-fortwo from the foul line for Kane, and Sheaffer made a bucket.

All of Kane’s 10 second half points came from the foul line.

The Lady Crusaders outscored the Lady Wolves 16-8 in the third quarter to extend their lead to 34-22. Thorwart and Polaski each scored six points, and Rachael Vanslander and Gurosik each made a bucket. For Kane, Ely went three-for-four from the foul line and Sheaffer went three-for-six.

A 3-2 advantage in the final quarter gave ECC the 37-24 win. Polaski scored all of the Lady Crusaders’ points in the frame with a field goal and a one-fortwo showing from the foul line. Sheaffer and Wymer each went onefor-two from the foul line for Kane.

ECC returns to action tonight at home against Bradford.
