Crusader junior varsity team defeats Brookville 49-24

The Elk County Catholic Crusader junior varsity basketball team defeated the visiting Brookville Raiders by a score of 49-24 on Tuesday evening at Elk County Catholic High School.

Three players finished the night in double figures for the Crusaders, with Charlie Geci leading all scorers with 16 points, Jacob Wasko putting up 12, and Marcus Muccio finishing with 11.

Josh Semeyn and Rees Taylor led the Raiders with six points each.

ECC outscored Brookville 12-4 in the first quarter, with all of the Crusaders’ points coming on threes, and all of the Raiders’ points coming from the foul line. Geci scored his first nine points of the night as he made a trio of threes for the Crusaders, and Muccio also made a three. Landen Marrara went four-for-four from the foul line for all of Brookville’s points.

The Crusaders put 15 points on the board in the second quarter while once again limiting Brookville to four. Muccio led ECC with six points on a pair of threes, Geci scored five points on a two and a three-point play, and Wasko scored four points on a pair of twos. Isaac Burkett made a bucket for the Raiders, and Taylor went two-for-two from the foul line.

ECC led halftime.

A 10-7 advantage 27-8 at in the third quarter increased the Crusaders’ lead to 37-15. Chase Simbeck led ECC with six points on three twos, and Wasko made a pair of twos for four points. Semeyn scored four points for Brookville with a field goal and two-for-four showing from the foul line, Taylor went twofor-two from the line, and Marrara went onefor-two from the line.

ECC outscored Brookville 12-9 in the final quarter for the 49-24 win. Wasko led ECC in the frame with four points on a field goal and two-for-four showing from the foul line, Noah Halquist hit a three, Muccio and Geci each made a bucket, and Simbeck went one-for-two from the foul line. Daniel Shaffer made a three for the Raiders, and Burkett, Semeyn, and Taylor each made a bucket.

ECC returns to action on Friday night on the road against St. Marys Area.
