Dutchmen take third as a team at individual districts
The St. Marys Area Flying Dutchmen finished third as a team and had several wrestlers end the competition on the podium at the District 9 2A individual wrestling tournament at Clarion University over the weekend.
Clearfield won the team title with 234 points. Port Allegany was second with 186 points, and St. Marys Area was third with 153 points. Fourth went to Cranberry with 140.5 points, followed by Brockway 134, Brookville 131, Central Clarion 80, Curwensville 57.5, Kane 54.5, Ridgway 54, Johnsonburg 52, Coudersport 44, Sheffield 39, Redbank Valley 16, Oswayo Valley 4, and Cameron County 3.
The Dutchmen had one D9 champion, one runner-up, one third place finisher, one fourth place finisher, three fifth place finishers, and three sixth place finishers.

In the semifinals, Walter lost a 7-4 decision to Brookville’s Jared Popson. Walter dropped into the consolation bracket in the consi-semis, where he won an 8-0 major decision against Kane’s Kayin Bard. In the third place bout, Walter lost a 5-1 decision to Port Allegany’s Ian O’Shea.

Aiden Beimel finished third for St. Marys at 127 pounds.
Beimel opened the competition against Curwensville’s Cooper Haag in the round of 16, winning by fall in 2:30 after taking a 20-6 lead. In the quarterfinals, Beimel took a 9-2 lead before pinning Sheffield’s Hayden Holden in 3:12. In the semifinals, Beimel lost a 5-1 decision to Cranberry’s Elijah Brosius. Dropping into the consolation bracket in the consi-semis, Beimel took a 9-2 lead against Central Clarion’s Grayson Aaron before winning by fall in 3:48. In the third place bout, Beimel won by default against Clearfield’s Bryndin Chamberlain.

Brody Wehler finished fifth for St. Marys at 133 pounds.
Wehler opened the competition against Brockway’s Colton Ross in the round of 16, winning by fall in 3:14 after taking a 3-0 lead. In the quarterfinals, Wehler won a 7-4 decision against Sheffield’s Chase Kyler. In the semifinals, Clearfield’s Colton Ryan defeated Wehler by an 8-4 decision. Wehler dropped into the consolation bracket in the consisemis and found himself up against Ross again. This time, Ross won by a 3-1 decision. Wehler and Kyler faced off again in the fifth place bout, with Wehler taking a 6-0 lead before winning by fall in 1:59.

Meyer opened the competition in the round of 16 against Brookville’s Tony Ceriani, winning by a 10-5 decision. In the quarterfinals, Johnsonburg’s Rocco Allegretto built a 15-4 lead over Meyer before winning by fall in 5:13. Dropping into the consolation bracket, Meyer had a bye in the consi of 8 #2. In the consi of 4, Meyer edged Central Clarion’s Brendon Wright by a 4-3 decision. In the consi-semis, Clearfield’s Colton Bumbarger pinned Meyer in 20 seconds. In the fifth place bout, Meyer and Ceriani faced off again, with Ceriani winning by a 3-1 decision.

In the semifinals, Wehler edged Clearfield’s Ty Aveni by a 6-5 decision. In the first place bout, Brookville’s Cole Householder defeated Wehler by an 8-1 decision.

Dilley had a bye in the round of 16 and then pinned Brookville’s Burke Fleming in 2:37 in the quarterfinals with the score tied at 2-all. In the semifinals, Dilley lost by technical fall, 19-3, in 3:57, to Clearfield’s Brady Collins. In the consi-semis, Dilley led Brockway’s Dylan Bash 10-9 when Bash came up with the pin in 4:56. Dilley and Fleming faced off again in the fifth place bout, with Fleming winning by a 4-0 decision.

Meyer opened the competition in the round of 16 against Sheffield’s Zack Barnes, building a 12-3 lead before winning by fall in 3:22. In the quarterfinals, Port Allegany’s Mason Gordon pinned Meyer in 1:56. Dropping into the consolation bracket in the consi of 8 #2, Meyer pinned Curwensville’s Sammy Gustafson in the second period.
