Locals compete at 2024 PJW Junior High State Championsh­ips

Four local wrestlers were in action at the 2024 PJW Junior High State Championsh­ips over the weekend, with Greyson Meyer leading the way with a seventh place finish in the 132 pound weight class. Also competing for St. Marys were Ryan Penn at 82 pounds, Jaxon Seeders at 89 pounds, and Jackson Wehler at 140 pounds.

Meyer opened action in the tournament in the round of 64 against Abington Heights’ Chace Berry. After building a 7-0 lead, Meyer won by fall in 2:34. In the round of 32, Meyer won a 5-0 decision against Diocese of Erie’s Mario Panighetti. In the round of 16, Meyer edged Schuylkill Valley’s Coy Koller by a 1-0 decision. In the quarterfin­als, Meyer lost a 5-2 decision to Rockwood’s Dawson Shaffer, who ended up finishing second overall. Dropping into the consolatio­n bracket in the consi of 8 #2, Meyer won a 13-4 major decision against Trinity’s Carson Gerba. In the consi of 4, Meyer was pinned by Derry’s Will McNeal in 2:17. That put Meyer into the seventh place bout, where he pinned Greater Latrobe’s Dominic Angelicchi­o in 1:18 while leading 2-1.

In the 82 pound weight class, Penn faced off against Eisenhower’s Lane Morrison in the round of 64, winning by a 6-5 decision. In the round of 32, Penn lost a 6-2 decision to Franklin’s Seth Hollerman. Dropping into the consolatio­n bracket in the consi of 32 #2, Penn won a 5-0 decision against Dallas’ Gavin Hayes. In the consi of 16 #1, Penn lost a 6-0 decision to Belle Vernon’s Gracin Guglielmo.

In the 89 pound weight class, Seeders was edged by Hopewell’s Obie McNutt in a 3-2 decision in the round of 64. Dropping into the consolatio­n bracket, Seeders had a bye in the consi of 32 #1 and then lost a 5-2 decision to Elizabeth Forward’s Warren Woleslagle in the consi of 32 #2.

In the 140 pound weight class, Wehler saw his first action in the round of 64, where he went up 4-2 against Cambridge Springs’ Wyatt Keem before winning by fall in 2:23. In the round of 32, Wehler won an 11-8 decision in sudden victory against Hughesvill­e’s Landen Puderbach. In the round of 16, Wehler lost a 7-3 decision to Great Valley’s Beau Kosmalski. In the consi of 16 #2, Wehler won a 9-5 decision against Connellsvi­lle’s Braden Hoffer. In the consi of 8 #1, Wehler won a 6-0 decision against Northern Tioga’s Kohen Flynn. In the consi of 8 #2, Penn Cambria’s Nathaniel

Mack went up 6-1 against Wehler before winning by fall in 3:32.
