Easter break started early for students in the St. Marys Area School District with an early dismissal on Tuesday afternoon, and the Boys and Girls Club of St. Marys offered an afternoon filled with Easter activities for both members and non-members for the occasion.

Youngsters in kindergarten through 12th grade were able to participate in the activities, though there was a small fee for non-members to attend.

According to Boys and Girls Club of St.

Marys Program Director Tracy Snyder, roughly 70 youngsters were in attendance at the club Tuesday afternoon.

“We have musical chairs, egg spoon races, pin the tail on the bunny, Easter bingo, and noisy eggs,” Snyder said regarding the Easter activities being offered throughout the club for the event.

Snyder elaborated on some of the events, explaining that for noisy eggs, participants had to try to guess the items hidden inside plastic eggs.

Musical chairs and the egg spoon relay races were being held in the gym, while the remainder of the activities were located throughout the downstairs area.

High school staff member Jayssa Snelick was among those running the relay races and musical chairs and remarked that participants were enjoying the activities.

“They’re having blast,” Snelick said.

Snyder shared that the club tries to hold similar events any time there is an early dismissal.

“Every holiday that they get out early, we try to plan holiday activities,” Snyder said. a

The club will now be offering day camps today and Thursday, as well as next Tuesday, before reopening for its regular scheduled offerings when school starts back up on Wednesday. The club is closed Friday and Monday.

Boys and Girls Club of St. Marys Chief Executive Officer Joe Jacob credited Snyder and fellow staff member Emily Crowe for their efforts overseeing the activities for Tuesday’s event.

“Good job to Tracy and Emily, who put this stuff together. They’re the program people, so without them these events wouldn’t take place,” Jacob said.

Jacob also noted that the Boys and Girls Club of St. Marys is currently in the midst of their annual campaign.

“It’s our 100th anniversary, so stay tuned. We have a bunch of things going on throughout the year,” Jacob said. “We have a golf outing coming up in June. Any way you can support the campaign, it helps to be able to do programs like this.”

Registration is also currently underway for the club’s Great Futures Summer Program.

“Sign up sooner than later. There are only 20 spots left,” Jacob said. “We’re taking only 80 kids this year.”

Youngsters are able to be signed up for a weekly session or for the entire program.

“We take the kids to the parks and pool every day, field trips once a week, lunch is provided by Tablespoons. That’s all at the cost of the summer program,” Jacob said.
