St. Marys Catholic Daughters of America give back

-

Recently, the St. Marys Court of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas (C D of A) held a “baby shower” for the Maternity Closet and presented their gifts to Theresia Kear. The group gathered many items to be given to local families who need support.

Some of the most talented C D of A members made homemade quilts, crocheted blankets, and clothing for the Maternity Closets program. Some members bought clothing, diapers, or made a monetary donation to the closet. This ministry is designed to help mothers in need of assistance. The Maternity Closet serves parents with children up to age three. Through the program they can visit once a month to receive free items for their child.

The C D of A is one of the oldest and largest organizations of Catholic women in the Americas. They donate to charities, missions, administer scholarship programs and strive “to be helping hands where there is pain, poverty, sorrow or sickness.” Locally the group also provides activities and programs at Elk Haven Nursing Home. The C D of A motto is “Unity and Charity.”

Catholic Daughter women enjoy each other’s company at meetings and work hard for their parishes and communities. Membership in the Catholic Daughters of the Americas organization is possible for women 18 plus. Any woman of the Catholic faith who wishes to belong to C D of A is welcome to join.

Joining the Catholic Daughters of the

Americas is a wonderful gift from God. The St. Marys Court is always looking for new members to join their group to continue their

mission of services to their community. Currently they have about 75 members, but many of them are home bound and are no longer able to

participate in activities.
