Local junior high track and field squads compete in Brookville

The junior high track and field teams from both St. Marys Area and Elk County Catholic were in action in Brookville on Wednesday afternoon.

In the girls’ meet, the Lady Crusaders defeated the Lady Dutch 97 to 40 and the Lady Raiders 97 to 35. The Lady Dutch defeated the Lady Raiders 70 to 57.

In the boys’ meet, the Dutchmen defeated the Crusaders 115 to 31. Brookville edged St.

Marys Area 69 to 68 and defeated ECC 110 to 31.

St. Marys Area’s Carter Dynda broke the junior high school record for the boys’ 3200 meter run, finishing as the runner-up in 11:10.84. The previous record of 11:32 was set by Angelo Geitner in 2012.

Also for the Dutchmen, Jacob Sloppy won the 400 meter dash in 65.17 seconds.

St. Marys won both hurdles events, with Jackson Wehler taking the win in the 110 in 20.52 seconds and Gavin

Henry winning the 300 in 49.70 seconds.

The Dutchmen won both the 4x400 and 4x800 meter relays. The team of Jackson Wehler, Chase VanAlstine, Carter Dynda, and Gavin Henry had a winning time of 4:07.54 in the 4x400, and the team of Max Jovenitti, Jacob Sloppy, Carter Dynda, and Gavin Henry had a winning time of 9:51.17 in the 4x800.

SMA’s Chase VanAlstine tied with Brookville’s Isaac Burns for the win in the high jump, with both clearing 5’.

The Dutchmen won both long jump and triple jump. Christian Sines took first place in long jump with a jump of 15’10”, and Jackson Wehler won triple jump with a jump of 35’.

Peyton Wendel won javelin with a throw of 97’6”.

Mia Azzato won both the 800 meter run and 1600 meter run for the Lady Dutch. Azzato had a winning time of 2:55.02 in the 800 and 6:24.57 in the 1600.

Keira Assalone won the 3200 meter run in 14:54.19.

The Lady

Dutch team of Kalyssa Annis, Keira Assalone, Macy Wendel, and Mia Azzato won the 4x800 meter relay in a time of 11:56.13.

ECC also had several individual event winners.

Brielle Smith won the 100 meter dash for the Lady Crusaders in 15.01 seconds and was the runner-up in the 200 meter dash in 30.50 seconds.

Anna Lanzel won the 400 meter dash in 72.45 seconds.

The Lady Crusaders won both the 4x100 and 4x400 meter relays. The team of Aubrey Gurosik, Sophia Shirey, Anna Lanzel, and Avery Stauffer had a winning time of 59.67 seconds in the 4x100 meter relay, and the team of Brooke Smith, Avery Stauffer, Lanie Weisner, and Addy Gradl had a winning time of 4:56.92 in the 4x400 meter relay.

Lanie Weisner won high jump with a jump of 4’4”, long jump with a jump of 13’9.5”, and triple jump with a jump of 28’2.5”.

Bella Dixon won all three throwing events for the Lady Crusaders. Dixon had winning throws of 32’4” in shot put, 71’2” in discus, and 66’2” in javelin.

For the Crusaders, Will Chapman won pole vault, clearing 5’6”.
