Lady Crusaders defeat Lady Raiders 11-2

The Elk County Catholic Lady Crusader softball team played host to Brookville on Friday afternoon at Benzinger Park, recording an 11-2 victory.

Emily Mourer went the distance in the circle for ECC, giving up three hits, walking two, and striking out 10.

Alyssa Tollini went the distance for Brookville, giving up 14 hits, walking one, and striking out one.

After sending Brookville’s batters down in order in the top of the first, ECC put their first four runs on the board in the home half of the inning.

Lucy Klawuhn led off with a single for the Lady Crusaders and then Sydney Alexander followed that up with a single. Klawuhn scored ECC’s first run of the game on a passed ball, and then Alexander scored on a triple by Bailey Thorwart. A triple by Mourer scored Thorwart, and then courtesy runner Alexa

Chamberlin scored on a sacrifice fly by Mya Pistner, making the score 4-0.

Brookville got a run back in the top of the second, but ECC put three more of their own on the board in the home half of the inning. Klawuhn led off with a triple and scored on a single by Alexander. A single by Thorwart scored Alexander, and Thorwart scored as Pistner reached base on an error, making the score 7-1.

Neither team scored again until the top of the sixth, when Brookville put their second, and final, run on the board to make the score 7-2.

ECC scored their final four runs in the home half of the inning.

Klawuhn drew a leadoff walk and then scored on a single by Alexander. A single by Thorwart scored Alexander, and then Thorwart scored on a double by Mourer. With one out, Chamberlin, who once again entered the game to run for Mourer, scored on a groundout, making the score 11-2.

Batters for Brookville went down in order in the top of the seventh, giving ECC the 11-2 win.

The Lady Crusaders are scheduled to be back in action on the road on Monday when they travel to Johnsonbur­g for a 4:15 p.m. game against the Ramettes.
