Girty helps lead Old Lyme past Old Saybrook
Old Lyme — Graham Girty scored eight goals to lift the Old Lyme boys’ lacrosse team to a 15-13 win over Old Saybrook Thursday in a Shoreline Conference game.
Sean Mcmahon had four goals and Sam Sweitzer had a goal and two assists for Old Lyme. Teddy Gudis scored five goals and Clay Farrell and Kent Tiden had three goals each for Old Saybrook.
H.S. baseball
No. 6 Old Lyme was ousted from the Shoreline Conference tournament, losing 4-0 to No. 3 Cromwell. Slater Gregory took the loss, pitching a seven- hitter, and Billy Buscetto, Brendan Johnson and Gregory had two hits each for Old Lyme (147).
Josh Sherron was 3-for-3 and scored four runs, leading Wheeler to a 9-3win over Grasso Tech in a nonleague game. Winning pitcher Troy Stefanski had two hits and drove in two runs for Wheeler (3-17). Drew Pelland drove in two runs for Grasso. for Lower New England this weekend in the Women’s National Division Tournament at Stony Brook. The tournament is held in conjunction with the NCAA Division I Women’s Final Four and features regional teams from other parts of the country. Hinsch, who plays attack, will attend Northfield Mount Hermon Prep in the fall. The Lower England team includes players from Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island.
Boys’ golf
Coginchaug beat Old Lyme 160175 in a Shoreline Conference match at Lyman Orchards. Matti Fuller led Old Lyme with a 2-over-par 38 and teammate Nick Berry shot a seasonbest 45.
Grasso Tech lost its Constitution State Conference match at Cheney Tech of Manchester, 189194. Steve Robarge (43) and Trever Hutchinson (46) were the low scorers for Grasso.
Girls’ golf
NFA’S Oliivia Carignan shared medalist honors as the Wildcats beat Hand 211-222. Carignan shot a 13-over-par 50 and shared the honors with Kelsey Anderson of Hand. NFA is 12-4.
Girls’ tennis
Waterford lost to Woodstock Academy 4-3 in a nonleague match. Waterford’s No. 1 doubles team of Katie Hudson and Casey Corrado won to complete and undefeated regular season (18-0). The teams of Jessie Hudson-katie Lewis and Nora Sullivan- Phoebe Lee also won for the Lancers.
H.S. crew
Stonington has qualified four boats for the New England Interscholastic Rowing Association Championships on Saturday in Worcester, Mass. The Bears’ boys’ varsity 1 and 2 boats will compete in the event, which features public and private schools, along with the girls’ varsity 2 and 3 boats.
Local rugby
The New London County U-19 Rugby team will play in the Division II state tournament on Sunday at the Madison Surf Club. The team is in its second season and includes players from three local high schools— New London, NFA and Waterford. For more information visit www.ctrugby.org.

Ryan Fuller of Old Lyme had two hits and drove in two runs Wednesday as Uconn beat South Florida 7-2 on the opening day of the Big East Conferecne tournament at Clearwater, Fla. Uconn (30-25-1) plays Louisville in a winners’ bracket game today.
Women’s lacrosse
Connecticutcollege senior Katelyn Driscollwas was first-team selection to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association AllRegion team for the second straight year. A two- year captain, Driscoll finished her career with 108 goals and 35 assists. In addition, junior Bri Miller, sophomore Lowell Abbott and sophmore Izzy Marx made the second team Miller had 30 goals and 10 assists, Abbott scores 46 goals and Marx led the team in 56 draw controls while scoring 12 goals.
