Chamberlai­n pitches Lyman past Waterford

Norwich — Lyman Memorial, which lost three one-run games to Large Division schools during the regular season, finally had one go its way Thursday.

And it couldn’t have come at a better time.

Keith Chamberlai­n pitched a twohitter as the sixth-seeded Bulldogs upset No. 3 Waterford 2- 0 in the quarterfin­als of the Eastern Connecticu­t Conference baseball tournament at Dodd Stadium. Lyman will play No. 2 Fitch, a 6-0 winner over No. 7 Stonington, in today’s semifinals at 1 p.m., also at Dodd.

During the regular season the Bulldogs lost to Waterford ( 3- 2), Fitch (1-0) and reigning ECC champion East Lyme ( 2- 1 in eight innings).

In the rematch with the Lancers, however, Chamberlai­n was in complete control, allowing only a pair of singles to losing pitcher Nolan Long while striking out four.

Chamberlai­n drove in Pete Gonnelli with the first run of the game in the first inning before Austin Creamer delivered an insurance run with an RBI single in the fourth. Lyman is 14-6 and Waterford is 17-4. In other games:

Al Jordan Johnson allowed two hits over five innings, lifting Fitch to a 6-0 win over Stonington. Jordan Johnson struck out one and walked one. David Hall had a run-scoring single for Fitch (18-3). Stonington is 11-10.

Tregonzale­zpitchedfi­vestrong innings as No. 1 Montivlle beat No. 8 Killingly 5-1. Gonzalez allowed two hits an the one run with eight strikeouts. Jordan Volpe allowed one hit and struck out two over the final two innings. Brandon Haas drove in three runs and Corey Wilcox, Max Hart and Nick Kinder had two hits each for Montville (19-2).
