Waterford— Leon Gerard Sudowski was born in New Jersey on Jan. 16, 1955, and died at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital on Wednesday, July 24, 2013.

Gerry, or “Doc” as he was known to his family and friends, had been an active member of the community for over 32 years. The owner of Sudowski Chiropract­ic in Waterford, Gerry served on various State of Connecticu­t committees for the disabled, was a board member of GreenShare Technologi­es and was a volunteer at Extreme Home Makeover.

Gerry’s passion was cooking, but he also enjoyed baseball, swimming and skiing with his children and grandchild­ren. Gerry, always ready with a quick joke for any occasion, loved to travel, and had been to Malaysia, Croatia, Italy and Spain, just to name a few adventures. Gerry was an avid researcher, always looking for the best way to help family, friends and patients. He loved to reach out whenever possible, also having volunteere­d at Ground Zero after 9/11. Most of all, Gerry loved his family.

Leon Gerard Sudowski is predecease­d by his wife, Sandra Sudowski of Waterford; and his daughter, Maria Sudowski.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Sudowski of Waterford; his sons, Jason and his wife, Rosalie, and their children, Adrian and Simon of Denver, Colo., Matthew and his daughter, Eralyn, of Waterford, Zachary of Naugatuck, and Aaron of Norwich; and his step-son, Randy Rubenstein of Waterford. Gerry is also survived by his mother, Jessica Sudowski; and his sister, Margaret, and her children.
