Burglary suspects caught Two New London men were arrested on numerous burglary charges after being tracked by a K-9 unit in Groton on Saturday morning.

Groton — Town police arrested two men on numerous charges Saturday morning after they were tracked by a state police K-9 unit following an interrupte­d burglary at the carport unit of a home.

Andrew T. Maynard, 21, of 46 Crystal Ave., Apt. B54, New London, and Jacob W. Matzdorff, 19, of 48 Crystal Ave., Apt B31, New London, each was charged with conspiracy to commit thirddegre­e burglary, third-degree burglary, fifth-degree larceny, third-degree criminal mischief, second-degree criminal trespass, possession of burglary tools, disorderly conduct and interferin­g with an officer.

Matzdorff additional­ly was charged with possession of a dangerous weapon.

Police said the resident of the house at an unidentifi­ed location discovered that his secured carport storage unit had been tampered with at 4:36 a.m. Saturday. The resident discovered two men inside the unit. The two men fled on foot and a neighbor called 911. Officers responded and set up a perimeter around the area. A state police K-9 unit conducted a dog tracking search that led to the suspects in a wooded area of Route 12. Groton Town Police arrested both suspects.

Each was held in lieu of a $75,000 bond and will be arraigned Monday in New London Superior Court. McDonald’s drive-through and struck the building and gas meter as he was exiting.

Ledyard police, Ledyard Fire Department and Gales Ferry Fire Department responded to the incident. The restaurant was evacuated and Yankee Gas was called to secure the gas line to the building. The restaurant was closed until gas service was restored, officials said.
