Waterford — Armando L. “Mondo” Esposito, 87, of Waterford, and Naples, Fla., passed away Oct. 27, 2015, in the kind care of Avow Hospice of Naples.

He was born June 2, 1928, in New London, to Louis and Guiditta (Bovi) Esposito, who emigrated from Italy.

He married the love of his life, Mercedes J. Miles, on July 4, 1953. They built a home in Waterford near the beach and Harkness State Park, site of many happy family gatherings. Their three children were raised in Waterford, where their parents’ home and hearts were open to family and friends; a glass of red wine was always shared with visitors.

A lifelong member of St. Joseph’s Church in New London, Mondo was a member of the Sons of Italy, Knights of Columbus, the Italian Club and several other organizations supporting local activities and charities.

Mondo was a hard worker all his life, physically strong and active to the end. His career was spent in New London, a firefighter and salesman for the M. J. Sullivan family proudly selling cars to his many loyal customers.

Mondo “Popi” and Mercedes “Nana” enjoyed several winters in Naples, near their cherished granddaughters.

In 2014, the couple needed to move to Memory Care of Naples. The family thanks the staff members for their kind, supportive care. They also sincerely thank Dr. Melvin Yoselevsky and his staff for wonderful medical care that went above and beyond for them in New London.

Mondo is survived by his wife of 62 years, Mercedes, and their three children and their families, Karen Samide and her husband, Gerhard, of Waterford and Naples, Lisa Trebilcock and her husband, Norman, of Naples, and their daughters, Jennifer and Emily, and Robert Esposito and his wife, Deborah, and their daughter, Nicole, and grandson, Owen.

Mondo was predeceased by his parents; his beloved brother, Carlo, and his wife, Vincenza; and a second brother who died in childhood.

His family will miss him dearly. His granddaughters hope heaven is full of dancing, laughter and red wine, his favorite things.

At his request, services were private. A celebration of his life will be planned in Connecticut at a later date.

Condolences may be sent to his family, c/o of Karen Samide, 6650 Mangrove Way, Naples, FL 34109.

Online condolences may be made at www.fullernaples. com.

Those who wish may send a memorial donation in Mondo’s name to Avow Hospice of Naples, at www.avowcares. org or to their administrative offices, 1095 Whippoorwill Lane, Naples, FL 34105.
