Mabel Birdsell
East Lyme — Mabel O. (Ungemack) Birdsell, 94, of Niantic passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Nov. 4, 2015, at Bride Brook Rehabilitation and Health Center in Niantic.
She is predeceased by her beloved husband, William, with whom she shared 69 years of marriage. They are now together again.
Mabel (Ungemack) Birdsell was born on Sept. 1, 1921, in Portchester, N.Y., the daughter of the late John and Susan (Wellner) Ungemack. The family moved to Greenwich, where she attended Greenwich High School and worked for many years at Greenwich Hardware. She loved to golf, read and spend time with family. She lived in Greenwich until 10 years ago when they moved to Niantic.
She is predeceased by her brothers, Edward, Robert, Carl and Purdy Ungemack.
She is survived by a son, William Birdsell Jr. and his wife, Regina (Sullivan) Birdsell, of Old Lyme; a grandson, Scott Birdsell and his wife, Natalee, and their son, Connor Birdsell, of North Carolina. She is also survived by a sisters-in-law, Trudy Ungemack of Armonk, N.Y., and Clem Ungemack of North Carolina; and several nieces and nephews.
We thank the caring and supportive staff of Bride Brook for their care and compassion throughout Mabel’s stay.
In honoring her wishes, there will be no formal services.
Memorial donations may be made to the donor’s choice.
