Sally O’Neill

-

Mystic — Sally (Price) O’Neill peacefully passed away at home with her family in Mystic on April 28, 2016.

Sally was born in Hancock, Mich., in 1931, the daughter of Gayle and Hazel Price, and sister of Gayle “GB” Price Jr. Growing up primarily in Dayton, Ohio, she graduated from Oakwood High School in 1949, and later from Smith College in 1953. Returning to Dayton after graduation, Sally worked in social services before moving to San Francisco and starting a career working as a news reporter.

It was in San Francisco that Sally met and married her late husband of 51 years, Peter O’Neill. Sally and Peter migrated back to the Midwest living in Toledo, Ohio, where they started their family of three children, Darcy O’Neill Garland, who now resides in West Hartford, and Timothy and Michael O’Neill of Stonington.

It was later after moving to Stonington where Sally lived for nearly 40 years that she became an enthusiastic and successful real estate agent working at Pequot Properties.

Sally’s passion from an early age was golf, learning from her father and playing with her family, and later competing successfully at the district and state levels in Ohio. She was most proud to be a women’s champion on multiple occasions at Inverness Club, where she was a very active member while living in Toledo.

Sally loved to garden, filling her house and yard with beautiful flowers, and was a very talented interior designer. Most of all, she had a great love of family gatherings, hosting boisterous and gourmet food-filled get-togethers. She will be remembered for the ever-popular Sunday night family dinners, which she adored.

Sally leaves behind her children, daughters-in-law Margaret O’Neill and Joan O’Neill; and loving grandchildren Matthew, Katie and Sally Garland, David and Megan O’Neill, and Wyeth and Mack O’Neill. All will miss her greatly.

The family would like to express sincere thanks to Sally’s team of nurses and aids for their compassionate care and support.

A celebration of Sally’s life is planned for Sunday, June 12, with details to follow, and the family asks that, in lieu of flowers, a donation be made in her name to The Center for Hospice Care Southeast Connecticut.
