Michael Moran

Westerly — Michael J. Moran, beloved husband of Paula J. (DiAngi) Moran of Leland, N.C., and formerly of Piezzo Drive, Westerly, passed away on Sunday, May 1, 2016, at the age of 67.

Born in Willimantic, he was a son of the late James and Dolores Moran.

Michael was the senior vice president of Commercial Lending for the Savings Institute Bank & Trust until his retirement in 2014.

He was a member of the Appalachian Mountain Club, and his hobbies included bird watching and photography. He also enjoyed spending time with his dog Max and quiet time reading and reflecting on verses of the Bible. Michael was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam War.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters, Sarah Iadarola and her husband, Matthew, of Westerly and Amy Mello of Groton; a brother, George Ducharme and his wife, Joan, of Granby; as well as two sisters, Donna Halbach of Willimantic and Carol Ann French and husband, Gary, of Ellington. Michael also leaves a brother-in-law and sister-in-law, John and Sue Holt of Leland, N.C.; and several nieces and nephews.

Visiting hours will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at Gaffney-Dolan Funeral Home, 59 Spruce St., Westerly. Relatives and friends are also invited to attend a funeral service at 10 a.m. on Friday at Dunns Corners Community Church Presbyterian, 221 Post Road, Route 1, Westerly. There is no procession to church from the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will follow at River Bend Cemetery, Westerly.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Michael’s memory.
