STATE FIRE ACADEMY OFFERING LEADERSHIP PROGRAM IN JUNE NATURE CENTER IN MYSTIC PLANS OPEN HOUSE EVENTS
Fire service leaders from across the state are invited to register for a two-day, hands-on training opportunity set to begin June 3 at the Connecticut Fire Academy.
At the workshop — called FROG: Fire Rescue Organizational Guidance for Fire Service Leaders — fire officials from volunteer and combination departments will work together to come up with ways to solve common leadership challenges.
The goal is for each participant to leave with guidelines customized for his or her organization.
The workshop, which is being put on by the Connecticut Fire Chiefs Association and the International Association of Fire Chiefs, will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. June 3 and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 4.
The Connecticut Fire Academy is at 34 Perimeter Road in Windsor Locks.

Mystic — The Denison Pequotsepos Nature Center will offer free admission to all Connecticut residents on June 11, as part of Connecticut Open House Day.
In addition, the center will host a free Pond Exploration program and a free guided hike that day. The pond exploration, from 12:30 to 2 p.m., will include use of dip nets and buckets to search for fish, turtles, frogs and other aquatic creatures in the center’s pond. Particpants should bring a water bottle and be prepared to get muddy. The program meets at the center.
The guided hike will take place from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. on the Denison Homestead and Avalon Land Conservancy lands connecting the nature center and the Coogan Farm. This will be a moderate hike over varied terrain.
June 11 will be the 11th annual Connecticut Open House Day. The Connecticut Office of Tourism sponsors the one-day statewide event to showcase Connecticut’s diverse world of history, art, and tourism.
