New London’s Brynn Doughty returns the ball during her victory over Norwich Free Academy’s Kai Chen in their No. 1 singles match Monday. Doughty helped Whalers beat the Wildcats 4-3 and qualify for the Class S state tournament for the second straight year.

New London — Brynn Doughty won at No. 1 singles and Sandrine Etienne at No. 3 singles as the New London girls' tennis team edged Norwich Free Academy on Monday, 4-3, to qualify for the CIAC Class S tournament for the second straight season.

The team of Yesha Patel and Olivia Santana won at No. 1 doubles for the Whalers (8-8), and Cora Sawyer and Callan Veltheim won at No. 3 doubles. The Wildcats are 4-14. In other matches: • Ledyard's Olivia Lyon remained unbeaten (11-0) in the ECC Small Division as the Colonels defeated Windham 6-1.

Ledyard (10-5, 10-1) can share the division title with Killingly by defeating the Redgals today.

Rachel Kane and Cynthia Petersons also won singles matches for the Colonels, who swept the doubles with wins by Stephanie Vetrano-Cara Tran, Liz Martin-Sam Beacham and Jenna McHale-Tara Opalenik.

• Old Saybrook swept the four singles matches en route to a 5-2 win over Old Lyme in the Shoreline Conference. The Wildcats picked up wins from their No. 1 doubles team of Marissa Smith-Shannon Nosal and the No. 3 team of Maria Donato-Callie Kotzan.

Boys

• NFA's Priyank Shelat rallied for a 4-6, 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles to highlight NFA's 4-3 victory over New London. Kevin Huang also his singles match for the Wildcats (9-9), as did the doubles teams of Bobby Zhang-Andy Ng and Tim Yuen-Neil Henostroza.

Bahaa Hoda won in three sets at No. 1 singles for the Whalers (10-6), who also picked up wins from Zach Skrabacz at No. 3 singles and the No. 1 doubles team of Deyvon Verdini-Bharat Dhyani.

• Stonington edged ECC Small Division champion Lyman Memorial, 4-3, in a nonleague match. Jacob Stiger, Chris Tsang and William Michelson won singles matches for the Bears (10-4), as did the No. 1 doubles team of Ryan Sealy-Sean Bessette.
