Montville — Robert Franklin Belanger, 81, of Montville passed away at Lawrence + Memorial Hospital in New London on June 28, 2016.

He was born in Montville on Nov. 4, 1934, to the late Wesley and Delia (White) Belanger.

He married his loving wife, Alice (Stewart) Belanger, on May 18, 1963, in Waterford. She predecease­d him in 1994.

He was a resident of Montville, which he affectiona­tely called “God’s Country,” a place he loved and where he was truly loved. He was a lifetime member of the Montville Fire Department, the Montville Polish Club and the American Legion Post 112. He owned and operated Belanger’s Auto and Towing in East Lyme and then on Route 163 in Montville.

He enjoyed hunting, boating and taking Sunday drives to New Hampshire, often bringing home antiques. He enjoyed his family and friends, especially Andy and Althea Zettergren and Mary Oddo, who were always there to lend a helping hand.

Robert is survived by his daughters, Janet Zito and Carole Donnee of Waterford; Carole’s husband Tom; a sister, Bernadine Belanger of Uncasville; and grandchild­ren, Reggie Golembeski, Carrie Cerreto and Kristen Bonagura.

He ws predecease­d by a daughter, Althea Zito; a brother, Eddie Belanger; and a sister, Pauline Albanese.

Family and friends may visit from 5 to 7 p.m. on Thursday at the Montville Funeral Home of Church and Allen, 53 Norwich New London Turnpike, Uncasville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. on Friday at St. John Church, Maple Avenue, Uncasville. Burial will immediatel­y follow at St. Patrick Cemetery in Montville.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Robert’s honor to the Montville Fire Department, 77 Route 163, Montville, CT 06353.
