Tigers fall to the Spinners

Norwich — The Lowell Spinners continued their red-hot start with a 4-2 win over the Connecticu­t Tigers in a New York-Penn League baseball game on Tuesday night at Dodd Stadium.

The Spinners, a Red Sox farm team, lead the Stedler Division at 10-2. Yoan Aybar doubled and Nick Lovullo tripled for the Spinners.

Connecticu­t (6-6) scored both its runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Tanner Donnels singled home Joey Havrilak and John Lester scored on a groundout by Hunter Swilling. Donnels had three of the Tigers' six hits.

District 6 Babe Ruth (15)

• Waterford advanced to the championsh­ip round with a 6-1 win over Groton. Dylan Bosco and John Pellegrino combined to a pitch a one-hitter for Waterford. Bosco had a two-run triple and Pellegrino doubled home two runs. Derek Pelletier had a RBI single for Groton, which plays East Lyme in the losers' bracket final today at Washington Park in Groton at 5:30 p.m.

District 6 Babe Ruth (14)

• Waterford advanced to the championsh­ip round with a 27-0 win over Groton. Payton Sutman, Steven Cantres and Tyler Gmyr combined for pitch a one-hitter for Waterford, which plays at unbeaten East Lyme on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. A Waterford win would force a deciding game on Friday. Petey Kiefer and Cantres had three hits each for Waterford.

Zone 6 Senior Legion

• Anthony Viteritto hit a walk-off single to score pinch runner Nick Traystman and give Ledyard/Pawcatuck a 1-0 win over Jewett City. Billy Keane pitched a six-hitter with nine strikeouts for the win. Bryce Bedard was hit by a pitch to lead off the bottom of the sixth for Ledyard/ Pawcatuck, Traystman stole second and was bunted over to third by Michael Bruce before scoring on Viteritto's single.

• Walker Sutman went the distacne for the win as Waterford beat TriTown 3-2. Mike Burrows had three hits and Alex Petchark had two hits for Waterford (8-2).

SEC 16-18 Babe Ruth

• Chase Foltz had two hits and three RBI as East Lyme Maroon beat Waterford Red, 7-4. Peter Tauro pitched a complete game with six strikeouts for East Lyme (2-2) and Jackson Deweese had three hits and two RBI. Spencer Hoagland had two hits for Waterford (3-1).

District 10 Junior League softball

• Ledyard evened up the best-ofthree series with an 11-9 win over Pawcatuck. The teams will play the deciding game today at Pawcatuck at 6 p.m. Ledyard scored eight runs in the fourth inning to rally for the win. Winning pitcher Sara Rivers had three hits and scored twice, Samantha Fancher had two hits and Jenna Topalis scored twice for Ledyard. Tori LoPresto had four hits and scored three runs, Haley Delmonico had three hits and scored three runs and Mia Tomillo had two hits for Pawcatuck.

Tomillo pitched a one-hitter with 11 strikeouts on Monday as Pawcatuck won the opener 3-0. Adrienne Bowen singled, doubled and drove in a run for Pawcatuck at Hannah Smith had Ledyard's hit.

District 10 baseball (9-10)

• Martin Light was the winning pitcher with seven strikeouts over four innings as New London beat Pawcatuck 5-4. Derrel Mitchell had two hits and Jesus Sanchez scored the winning run for New London. Austen Linicus had two hits for Pawcatuck.

Schooners postponed

• The Mystic Schooners had their game against the Upper Valley Nighthawks at White River Junction, Vt., rained out.

The teams will play a doublehead­er today at Fitch High School, starting at 5 p.m.
