Flora Shippee

Plainfield — Flora Shippee, 92, formerly of Waterford and Plainfield, died on Sunday, July 17, 2016.

She was the daughter of the late Samuel and Suzanne Gillow. On Aug. 30, 1941, she wed her beloved husband, Clifford J. Shippee who predecease­d her. Flora was a secretary at the Teamster’s Vision Center for many years.

During World War II she worked at the Rationing Board. Flora was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary and a past president. Traveling was a highlight, including visiting Scotland, England, Hawaii and most of the states in the USA. She also enjoyed brass bands and music of the ’40s.

Flora leaves her children, Bonnie O’Brien, Thomas and wife, Joyce, Douglas and wife, Linda, and Susan Powers; her sisters, Maureen Opperman and Valerie Orefice; as well as many nieces and nephews. She has 10 grandchild­ren, 23 great-grandchild­ren and five great-great-grandchild­ren.

She was predecease­d by her daughter, Kathleen Sassenger; grandson, Christophe­r Conderino; and great-grandson, Dylan Paradis.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, July 28, 2016, at the First Congregati­onal Church of Plainfield. Burial will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributi­ons may be made in her name to the First Congregati­onal Church of Plainfield Restoratio­n Fund, 519 Norwich Road, Plainfield, CT 06374.
