Hermanson has lead in Connecticut Senior Amateur

-

Madison — East Lyme's Bill Hermanson, the defending champion, shot an even-par 70 take take the 18-hole lead in the 71st Connecticut Senior Amateur Championship golf tournament at Madison Country Club on Monday.

The final 18 holes will be played on Tuesday.

Hermanson, who plays out of Black Hall Club in Old Lyme, was 3-over after five holes, but played the final 11 holes in 3-under to take the lead.

"It was tough out there, the greens were really firm and really fast, so you had to pay attention to every putt you had," Hermanson told csgalinks.org. "I was definitely a little tentative starting out, but after the fifth hole I was able to settle down and start hitting fairways and greens. I hit it to a couple of feet on No. 8 and about six feet on No. 9 for birdies, so that helped get me back on track."

Also qualifying for the final round of play was Jim O'Neill of Great Neck CC in Waterford. He shot a 79 and is tied for 29th.
