Waterford girls nip Stonington in ECC

Waterford — Mia Brennan scored an unassisted goal in the 16th minute as Waterford edged Stonington 1-0 in an Eastern Connecticu­t Conference Division II girls' soccer game on Monday.

Jordan Kovacs had eight saves for Waterford (3-1-2, 2-1-1) while Hannah Lamb had 16 saves for the Bears (2-3-2, 1-3-1). In other games:

• Natalie Dionne scored five goals as Norwich Free Academy defeated New London 7-0 in an ECC Division I match. Juliette Hogan and Jaida Davis added one goal apiece for the Wildcats (3-1, 3-1) while goalie Carly Potts made 12 saves for New London (1-6, 0-4).

• Plainfield overcame a 1-0 halftime deficit to hand St. Bernard its first ECC Division III loss, 2-1. Kara Bassett, assisted by Emily Smith, scored in the 22nd minute for the Saints (4-1-2, 2-1-1) and goalie Brianna Beverly made 12 saves.

• Jenna Peduzzi, assisted by Maddie Ouellette, scored the game's only goal as Old Lyme defeated North Branford 1-0. Katherine Pettersen made 12 saves in goal for the Wildcats (8-1).

• Olivia Crawford and Alison VanVolkenb­urg scored as Ledyard shut out Fitch 2-0 in an ECC Division I game. Sarah Serbascewi­cz and Abigail Millbach each had an assist for the Colonels (25, 2-2) and Delaney Gagnon had five saves.

The Falcons are 1-4, 1-3.

Boys

• Ben McKenzie broke a tie with a goal in the 70th minute as Norwich Tech won its first game of the season, 2-1 over Ellis Tech in the Constituti­on State Conference East Division. Kevin Torras scored the game-tying goal for Norwich Tech (1-5-1, 1-3-1).

• Joel Morth scored just four minutes before halftime as Montville edged Killingly 1-0 in an ECC Division II match. Lucas Chaude assisted for the Indians (3-3, 2-3), who held a 15-5 edge in shots, and goalie Nik Strickland made four saves to earn the shutout.
