Woodruff's OT goal lifts Ledyard past Fitch in boys' soccer

Ledyard — Jack Woodruff scored seven minutes into overtime, lifting Ledyard past Fitch, 3-2, in an Eastern Connecticu­t Conference Division I boys' soccer game on Tuesday.

Bo Nguyen assisted on the game-winner and also scored a goal for the Colonels (3-4, 2-2). Owen Wheeler also scored a goal, Woodruff added an assist and Garrick Prior had seven saves.

Gabe Messina had two goals, including one with 17 seconds remaining in regulation to force overtime. The Falcons dipped to 2-4, 1-3. In other games: • Scott Pion had three goals as Wheeler downed Griswold, 5-1, in the ECC Division III. Caleb Melinosky and Ryan Condon both scored for the Lions (2-4-1, 2-2) and Bower Baker made 13 saves. Devin Mitchell scored for the Wolverines (1-5, 1-3).

• Nathan Cherenzia, Samuel Dumond and David Hernandez scored first half goals to power Norwich Free Academy past New London, 4-0, in ECC Division I. The Wildcats (4-1, 4-0) also scored off an own goal while goalies Troy Maurer and Ryan Godino combined for the shutout. The Whalers fell to 2-5, 0-4.

• Sean Crowe's first half penalty kick was the difference in St. Bernard's 1-0 win over Plainfield in ECC Division III. Juan Uran made seven saves to earn the shutout for the Saints (3-4, 3-2).

Girls' soccer

• Norwich Tech goalie Marissa Madera made three saves in a 5-0 loss to Putnam, which received three goals from Aly Morris.

Girls' swimming

• Katie Provost won the 200 individual medley and was on two winning relay teams, leading NFA to a 94-68 win over Windham/Lyman in an ECC meet. Katie Hatfield-Spendolini of NFA won the 500 freestyle and was also on a winning relay team and teammate Ciara McDonough was the anchor leg on winning 200 medley and 200 freestyle relays. Kaitlyn McGuire, Sophia Kaiser, Anna Ciriello and Elisabeth Graves also won events and Makayla Jones, Summer Pellegrini and Madison Lacy were on winning relays teams for NFA (1-5, 1-4).

• East Lyme defeated Ledyard, 94-72, in an ECC meet behind Emma Vlaun who won the 200 freestyle (2:17.22) and 500 freestyle (6:12.75). Kate Orefice finished first in the 50 freestyle (28.28) while Taylor Gray captured the 200 individual medley (2:25.28) and 100 breaststro­ke (1:13.19) for the Vikings (5-0, 5-0). Olivia Strelevitz took the 100 butterfly (1:03.85) and 100 backstroke (1:05.43) and Madison Sanborn won the 100 freestyle (1:08.76) for the Colonels (23, 2-3).

Volleyball

• Alaina Moger had 33 assists and 13 digs as Waterford fought back twice to beat Woodstock Academy 25-22, 21-25, 21-25, 25-20, 15-6 in an ECC Division II match. Olivia Pacheco had 12 kills and five aces, Leah Turrell had nine kills and nine digs, and Molly Kosma had 10 digs and an ace.

• Norwich Tech swept Ellis Tech, 3-0, in a Constituti­on State Conference match. Game scores were 25-21, 25-23 and 25-19. Vanessa Gumbs had 11 kills and Madison Bodley added nine kills, four digs and two aces for the Warriors (7-1, 4-0). In a conference match on Monday, Bodley had 14 kills and six aces in a sweep of Grasso Tech, 25-7, 25-15, 25-14. Chloe Guzman had 10 assists and Gumbs had six kills and four aces.

• Montville beat Grasso Tech 254, 25-3, 25-15 ina nonleague match. Kristi Petrova had eight kills and Sarah Bigalbal had six aces for Montville (2-6).

Girls' cross country

• Stonington placed four runners in the top five, including winner Lindsay Orr (20:57), in wins over Ledyard, 1844, and New London, 15-50. Liz Gray finished second in 21:07 and Caroline Morehouse was fourth (22:12) for the Bears (6-1). Averie Greeley was third (21:30) for Ledyard (3-4), which also beat New London, 15-50. Shineika Fareus took sixth for the Whalers.

Boys' cross country

• Ledyard swept the top five places to beat Stonington, 15-42, and New London, 15-43. Jacob Money placed first in 17:15 while Zak King (17:37), Sean Healy (18:19), Geralson Withrow (18:30) and Domenic Murray (19:04) rounded out the top five for the Colonels. Stonington defeated New London, 25-30, behind Spencer Jones who took seventh. New London's Nate Skrabacz was sixth.

Field hockey

• Isabel Cavalieri had a goal and an assist in Waterford's 3-0 shutout of Killingly in the ECC. Sarah Verity and Megan Foley also scored and goalie Mikayla Brucoli made six saves for the Lancers (2-4, 2-3).

• Stonington remained unbeaten with a 4-1 win over Woodstock in the ECC. Margit Burgess had two goals while Hannah Pratt and Miranda Arruda also scored for the Bears (7-0, 6-0), who held a 22-1 edge in shots.

• Kaitlin Kluge scored two goals to power East Lyme past Fitch/Ledyard, 4-1, in the ECC. Julie Bates and Caroline Healy each had a goal for the Vikings (4-2, 4-1). Zoe Pearse scored for Fitch/Ledyard (1-3-1, 1-3-1).
