Waterford — Nicholas “Jim” James Dahm Sr., 79, of Waterford, died Tuesday morning, Sept. 27, 2016, at Greentree Manor in Waterford.

He was born in Aurora, Ill., on June 28, 1937, the son of Nicholas W. and Lucille (Bennett) Dahm. He was the husband of Barbara L. Dahm for over 60 years; she predecease­d him Jan. 16, 2016.

Jim served in the U.S. Navy on a submarine tender. He was employed with the family business, Thames Roofing and Sheet Metal, ending his career as a self-employed coppersmit­h. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Seaside Council 17. Jim never left the house without his signature wide-brimmed cowboy hat, having a different one for work and pleasure. He was an avid Dallas Cowboys fan and enjoyed bowling in his earlier years. Although he would never admit it openly, he thoroughly enjoyed the family holiday gatherings throughout the years.

He is survived by a son, David Dahm and Heidi of Bozrah; two daughters, Lisa Dahm and Chauncey of Alhambra, Calif., and Toni Jean Dahm and Robert of Manchester; a daughter-in-law, Susan Dahm of East Lyme; a twin brother, Donald Dahm and his wife, Connie, of Oswego, Ill.; a sister, Jackie Zbinden of Waterman, Ill.; six grandchild­ren, Carissa, Caitlin, Sarah, Benjamin, William, and Amanda; and three great-grandchild­ren, Kaleb, Lily and Violet.

He was predecease­d by a son, Nicholas J. Dahm Jr.; a sister, Betty Quigley; brothersin-law, Douglas Quigley and Jerry Zbinden.

Calling hours are from noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 1, 2016, at the Thomas L. Neilan & Sons Funeral Home, 12 Ocean Ave., New London. Interment will be private.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributi­ons may be directed to the Connecticu­t Humane Society.
